Question about Digital Cameras

2 Answers

I have a Canon Rebel XTi which seems to "lock up" ie will not allow a second picture to be taken after the first when used in "portrait" mode. I was shooting a wedding with it last week and sometimes it would do this and sometimes it was OK. Sometimes it would shoot three or four consequetive pictures. Only turning it off and then back on would start it again. Sometimes even this did not work for more than ten seconds Is this a fault? Why does it only happen sometimes? I'm not sure if it does it in auto too. At home, I just tried firing off five or six shots and it seems fine. Is this happening for some other reason Sincerely Robert Fresco

I think you may be right. I had taken the card out yesterday to directly download files into the computer and since I reloaded and seated it back in the camera its not showing the same symptoms. The card is a professional Lexar 2 GB card, it doesn't show any damage at the contact points and it could be that it just wasn't seated properly
Thanks a million, your a genius so I give you a ten point rating.
Seriously though, I will give it a vigorous trial before I pronounce it a full recovery
    Cheers

Your memory card could be corrupt or not making a good connection. Try reseating the memory card and/or formatting it.
Check the cards gold contacts to make sure they are clean also.

Sometimes when i'm taking picture my flash wont stop blinking for a few seconds.

The 400D uses flash assisted focusing. In low light conditions the auto focus cannot get a focus lock so it pops the flash a few times so the lens has a chance to focus. You will notice this will go away when in the manual focus mode (the switch on the side of the lens).

The only way around this problem (as people in a photo think the photo has already been taken and looks away when the camera actually takes the picture) is to use a hotshoe mounted TTL Canon Speedlight (430ex or 580ex) which use an infra-red focussing beam.

Unable to download pictures?

You should get a card reader and use that instead, because it's much quicker to download. However, also look at Canon's website, for newer versions of the software.

Resolution

The XTi allow to set different image size for manual modes an for AUTO modes. So you can set a Large size superfine for auto and RAW type for manual modes. So check the size settings under manual and automatic modes.

However, the "smal" resolution (1936x1288 px) on XTi will allow you to print good 5x7 photos.

With the camera in Playback mode (reviewing pictures you have already taken), press the DISP button until the LCD shows what you want -- no information, basic information, or full shooting information.

Lcd screen stays on and cannot see subject

"Live View", where you can see and compose your picture on the LCD, was not available on any digital SLR before 2007 (the Rebel XTi came out in late 2006). So you need to compose your picture using the optical viewfinder, take your picture, and the picture shows up on the LCD after you've taken it.

But it's still faster than having to wait until the film is developed. :-)

New canon eos digital rebel xti

There have been several reports of CF cards that work with all cameras, except the Rebel XTi. It depends on the actual manufacturer of the card. Canon made a change mid-production that affected the data saving. Try another brand of card & you should not have that problem any more.

Date on pictures taken and movie shooting on canon eos 400d

The EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel XTi do not support stamping the date and time on the image.

It is not possible to record the date and time as part of the image at the time the picture is taken. However, the date and time is captured in the EXIF information of the image at the point of capture. It is possible to print the image with the date and time via printing software. Please see the documentation for the software package that you use for printing images for the proper procedure.

SPOTS on pictures taken by my Canon EOS Rebel XTi

Cleaning the lens and CMOS (Canon uses CMOS instead of CCD sensors) would be the first thing I would do. Before an expensive cleaning (usually at least $60) try getting a blower and blowing off the lens and sensor (find the sensor cleaning thing in the yellow section of the cameras menu, select it, the mirror will lock up, take off the lens, blow on the sensor with the blower)
For the lens, besides the blower, use a microfiber cloth on it.

If the problem persists, almost any camera store will clean cameras. Try Ritz cameras, here is a list of their stores in NY city.
