Stirred? I'd say it's lost in the murk...you'll need to boot from installation cd, and possibly reformat your drive. Hope you got backup...

NF110 Netbook shows black screen and at top says 'operating system not found' Can you help?

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. . Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

No operating system found

The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB...

Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

have you tried looking for a windows label on the laptop that will tell you what version of windows is on it

The fact you are seeing two hard drives is probably because it is partitioned. The hard drive you tried to boot from to repair it , that is the system recovery partition the other partition is where your windows is installed

try pressing the ALT key & F10 together immediately after turning the laptop on

This should invoke the recovery partition to restore windows back to how you got it from the factory

NOTE THIS WILL DESTROY ALL DATA THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY ON THE COMPUTER

so anything on it will be wiped and it will be as you got it when it was purchased

If this helped you please vote for me

P.S. Other people please note how the poster explained there problem, in great detail and not just something like my laptop wont work

Whenever I start my HP laptop, a black screen loads and it says " Boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard disk". I have no clue how to fix this.

Sounds like the hard drive has been formatted and you need to install windows on it. Was it working before or did you just buy it second hand?

Screem dose not go on power is on monator not operating

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I have a couple of questions and some troubleshooting tips for you:

Questions: Is the splash screen coming on at all? Any picture or text right when you boot up? What Windows are you running (Windows XP or Vista)? Are there any lights on when you boot up or beeps? If so how many beeps do you hear?

First troubleshooting: If it boots up and is at least showing the splash screen (HP splash screen or text) then it would be that the operating system is corrupt. This can be caused by several things included viruses, power surges or hardware failure.

The solution for this would be to take the hard drive out and slave it to another working desktop computer to retrieve your data. The attach the hard drive back on and reformat it (I can add specifics to doing this once I know the operating system).

Second troubleshooting: If you hear the operating system chime but do not see a picture and all the lights are on, then this would indicate that the back light on the screen is out. You can test this simply by hooking the laptop up to a monitor and see if you get a picture. If the computer screen shows on the monitor, then your back-light is out. If it doesn't show up then your video graphics card is out.

If the back light is out, it is easier to order a new screen (new or used) from eBay and just switch out (simple process and you can find a replacement for under 50 dollars on eBay). If it is the video graphics card, then you can also purchase one from eBay and switch out (a little tougher because you have to take the top of the laptop off). You can get assistance with this from the manufacturers website and pull specs for free.

Third troubleshooting: If you do not hear any beeps and the above solutions did not work. Then your motherboard has failed. This can be caused by surges or dust. You can purchase a replacement from eBay for a fraction of the cost and replace (this is tough and I am not sure if they have specs for this). You can do it yourself, just be sure and put everything back together as it was.

Fourth troubleshooting: To test the battery, take the battery out of the laptop and turn on with just the adaptor. If it boots, then the battery will need to be replaced. There is no way of testing the power adaptor but 85% of the time, this is the problem. Even if lights come on, the adaptor sometimes gets so overheated that it silently goes out but gives just enough power to make the lights come on. The power adaptor can be found on eBay for under 20 dollars and is cheap enough to replace (first) to make sure that is not the problem. The battery can also be found on eBay for under 60 dollars.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to assist.

Screen says Operating System not found.

Either the OS installation was damaged to where the computer cannot recognize it or the hard drive is damaged and needs replacement. You could try and use the recovery disc or operating system disc that came with the computer to try and repair or re-install the OS. If the installation fails then try taking out the hard drive and installing it in another computer to see if it is working or not. You should be able to re-partition and format the drive. If not replace the drive, If the drive tests good then it might be a hardware issue with the motherboard for the laptop.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
(can some creative netizen bring this to the public light to pressure HP to do the ethical things??)

bad quality HP. hong kong HP pavilion dv2000 series manufacture problem. HP unethical.

Operating system not found on my laptop

ok i have had this problem.. (my computer would show the loading screen with all of the commands at the bottom. after this it would not boot up, but show a message on a black screen saying "operating system not found")
I completly tore down the laptop and making sure i had no issues with anything. so here is what i did that is simple and ended up solving the issues 3 times in a row.

1. take the cover off for the hard drive on the bottom of the laptop ( shows 3 very small disks beside each screw)

2. grab the clear strip that is on the hard drive and pull out the hard drive. ( blow out where it connects on the right side if dirty)

3. Reconnect the hard drive this will reset it.

4. Make sure to change back the processes to defaults when the computer starts back up.. If you fail to do so you will have to repeat the process each time you turn off the computer.

(This will only work if you messed up some settings while having the computer on, and not if you have faulty parts.)
for me i ctrl alt deleted and accidentally ended some important processes..

any other issues just email me at Bostelman@hotmail.com i will try to help you out. =D
