I use a adsl router,

it allows me to go wiresless on my laptop, play my xbox and use my base computer.

the gateway and modem are part of the router so only one device is required

I have frontier services with a net gear modem/router i was told by xbox live to get a d-link router an it would help my problem with running 2 xbox 360 with no lag whats so ever but dont know what im...

well, unless the D-link is also a modem/router, I don't see how ADDING the D-link router to a lagging network will reduce said lag. They probably wanted you to REPLACE the current router with that one.....

will "frontier service" allow that router to be set in a "modem-only" setting ? You'll have to get with them on that. as for the D-link, there are manuals as well as an Online Emulator that simulates the Router interface so you can see how to set it up....BEFORE you set it up !

[PS: tracking-down lag problems can be tricky....you should be experiencing bad lag with all sites for it to be your hardware....

Hi Hedglinbo9,

Once the modem is connected with the router and after ur machine is connected with the ethernet port on the router please open up the browser and log in to http://192.168.1.1
The user name and password will mostly be admin
log in and fill the connection details like if it is a DSL or a Cable connection.
once you have entered it save it

Open up command prompt and check the Ip address and gateway you should be able to go online now

Any more issues please let me know.

You may access the setup page of the router to get the network key. You will need to use a computer hardwired to the router. Check the ip address of the computer (control panel -> network connections-> right click Local Area Connection and select Status) and take note of the default gateway.

The default gateway is the ip address of the router.

On your browser's address bar, type the default gateway, usually it is 192.168.1.1. It will ask you for the username and password.

By default leave the username blank then the password is admin.

Once on the setup page, go to Wireless -> Wireless security. You will see the network key on this page.

I hope this helps!

I can't get my wireless g broadband router to work with my dsl speedstream 5100 modem i can connect to internet when my ethernet cable goes from my xp pc or my mac osx desktop directly to the dsl...

make sure that there is no IP conflict with the two devices. speedstream and wireless G. if both of them have same IP gateway you have to change the IP either one of them for you to have a connection.

I have a 2wire 2700hg-b modem/wireless router, my problem is i get lag while playing xbox 360 online, i get red bar to none , while my friend have all green bar,in the tv screen, also my laptop lose signal...

yeah a better modem would be the easiest thing to do because it's clear that the one you've got is either not transmtting properly or is just the unit you'vee got has a fault in it

My AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-64 by Gateway has wireless network problems. When on wireless, there are lag spikes (meaning it suddenly stops working) every five seconds for around one second each time...

"under the same modem" .. you mean connected to the same router?
if you are using an external USB modem, try a different cable -and keep it short. I can't think right now of any clear causes of this problem other than a bad USB (or too long) cable (which can cause exactly this problem).

possibilities.. could be a cordless phone, cellular, wireless mouse/headphones/controller, bluetooth .. many of these devices connect with their receiver regularly and use almost identical fequencies which interfere.

Doubt it is a network conflict -where someone else has the same IP address. You could try setting a manual IP address too..

good luck!

I need to know the best router/modem combo to buy

Order the Westell 7500 from Verizon. May not be the best, but your love will be easier because it eliminates a device by providing a single gateway / combo modem router.
Speed issues are ambiguos. Call Verizon and have them take you through some slow speed troublshooting.

Wireless internet on laptop

You need an external WIRELESS ROUTER or MODEM ( provided by AT&T ). After this AT&T router configuration you needs to do configuration at your laptop using CONNECTION SETUP wizard for Wireless Networks & Devices.
Then you can set IP addresses & then you will be connected to it. I hope above steps will help you.

I can not find the PIN number for the router. It

Hi there... I dont get wat you mean by PIN... Is it WEP key your refering too? Well as you said it is supposedly the 10 digits on the modem.. If your unable to connect, then the possibilities are that the modems default wep key has been changed. To reset this key you will have to access the gateway thru

192.168.1.254 or gateway.2wire.net - click on wireless settings and from there scroll down and you will be able to see the buttons where it is marked as use default encryption key or use custom key passphrase. Click on use default encrpytion key , scroll down and click save settings. Now note at this point of time when you click save , whichever wireless devices which were or could connect to the modem when it was in " use custom key passphrase" cant be connected anymore. All the devices must be reconfigured to the default wep key which can be found on your modem which is a 10 digit n numbers.

2nd choice.
You access the modems gateway page to reset the whole modem to factory default
Go to the http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc and you will be prompted for password. By default its 2wire. Once you have accesses in it, scroll down till you see Troubleshooting - then you can see resets. click on it and at the bottom you will see a radio button RESET - Resets your 2wire gateway to factory default. CLick on the reset, your modems power light will change to orange led after 3 secs from your click. and the orange led will be there for ard 10-15 secs. And your modem will boot back. And now its factory default. You need to do the necessary configurations depending on your ISP.

3rd choice

Reset button behind modem
Click the red reset button behind the modem and hold for 15 secs, the modem will be restored to factory default.

Pls note : I will not hold responsibility if any mishaps happens during this operation. All the above is done on YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY. Thank you.
