I bought a blackberry storm 9530 few months ago and recently the screen started freezing frequently with in an hour or so. please help me solve my problem...............

Hi,

The easiest thing to do is to take it to the manufacturer because the phone is still under warranty, but, if you want to repair it your self, follow the step below.

The issue you describe appears to be corruption of one or more system files within the BlackBerry OS. A forced update should restore your BB to working condition, but there is the risk that you may lose your data. If that is a problem, do not proceed.
If you wish to restore the BB, please continue below after verifying that you have the following:
A. Computer (Windows) B. BlackBerry Desktop Manager software (BlackBerry.com) C. Latest version of the BlackBerry OS for your make/model BB

To get the OS, simply log on to your carriers website and download the latest version of the OS for your BB. Once the file is saved to your computer, you need to install the setup files just like you would any other program. When completed, proceed to step.

1. Open BB Desktop Manager 2. Remove the battery cover, battery and micro SD card (if you have one) from your BlackBerry. 3. Connect the BB to your computer via USB cable (without the battery in place, just the phone's shell). 4. There should be a few drivers that will load automatically and the BB Desktop Manager will recognize your BB. 5. Close the BB Desktop Manager once it has been detected. 6. Go to the following path. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\App-loader 7. Double-click the "App-loader.exec" application 8. Once it loads, the application will detect your BB and proceed to update your BlackBerry's OS. 9. If you are prompted to backup your BB data, please do so. If not, then proceed to step #10. 10. Select wipe (or secure wipe) to completely remove the existing OS and data.

A fresh, updated version of the BlackBerry OS will be installed on your BB. The process takes about 35-90 minutes to complete. Once done, the BB will automatically reboot and if you had an existing backup or created one before wiping/installing, you can now reopen the BB Desktop Manager and restore your backup to the BB.

As a side note, the BlackBerry Storm 9xxx series has been known to have many flaws. The Storm2 fixed many issues, but still left a lot behind.

If the problem persists after the update, check to see if you still have coverage under the manufacturer's 1yr warranty or if you pay for insurance service, your BB maybe covered under service replacement.

Regards

File names of common Windows applications

Windows operating systems have many useful programs that come built-in and ready to go. These programs can typically be accessed by navigating through the Start menu or opening the Control Panel (or by typing their names in the Search bar if you have Vista). But sometimes you may want to pin the program to your Start menu or create a shortcut on your desktop, so that you can access it quicker and not have to hunt it down every time you want to run it. In order to do that, you'll need to know the program's file name and where to find it (unless you're running Vista, in which case you can use the instant search feature).

Below are some common Windows programs and their respective file names. Each of these files can be found in the \Windows\System32 folder. (The locations may vary on a 64-bit system.)

Command Prompt = cmd.exe
Computer Management = compmgmt.msc
Device Manager = devmgmt.msc
Disk Defragmenter = dfrg.msc
Disk Management = diskmgmt.msc
Services = services.msc
Task Manager = taskmgr.exe

Another useful file to be able to find is the explorer.exe file. Sometimes when the system locks up or a program freezes, your taskbar and/or desktop shortcuts will disappear. Rather than reboot the computer, you can run the explorer.exe file and "refresh" the Windows desktop. The explorer.exe file is located in the \Windows folder.

You can find these files by opening My Computer, selecting the C: drive, and then going to the Windows folder and then the System32 folder (unless you're looking for explorer.exe). Once you've located the file you want, you can right click on it and select either "Pin to Start menu" or "Create shortcut" to make it easier to access in the future.

My blackberry storm stopped recieving and outgoing calls soon after i upgragraded my blackberry desktop manager while my phone connected to pc.even on my desktop manager it is showing disconnected. please...

The issue you describe appears to be corruption of one or more system files within the BlackBerry OS or that a file is locked in process and does not let the BB connect as it should. Below you will find 2 solutions to help resolve your issue.

If you wish to restore the BB, please continue below after verifying that you have the following:

A. Computer (Windows)
B. BlackBerry Desktop Manager software (BlackBerry.com)
C. Latest version of the BlackBerry OS for your make/model BB
D. BlackBerry USB Data Cable

A. Battery Pull

1. Remove the battery cover and battery from your BB.
2. Wait about 1 minute, then reinsert the battery.
3. Power on your BB and test it by making a phone call to test for outgoing calls.
4. If it works, proceed to step #5. If not, then skip down to solution B, step #1.
5. Ask someone to call you to test for incoming calls.
6. If it works, put the battery cover back. If not, then skip down to solution B, step #1.

B. BlackBerry OS Software Update
Note: A forced update should restore your BB to working condition, but there is the risk that you may lose your data. If that is a problem, do not proceed.

The process takes about 35-90 mins to complete. Once done, the BB will automatically reboot and if you had an existing backup or created one before wiping/installing, you can now reopen the BB Desktop Manager and restore your backup to the BB.

None of the keys on blackberry 8900 is working

The issue you describe appears to be either a software or hardware-related problem. Below you'll find 2 solutions to help determine what type of issue it is and how to resolve it.
A. Software: corruption of one or more system files within the BlackBerry OS. A forced update should restore your BB to working condition, but there is the risk that you may lose your data. If that is a problem, do not proceed.
If you wish to restore the BB, please continue below after verifying that you have the following:

B. Hardware: The keyboard component has lost its tactile feedback and become faulty or the logic board (what stores the information and interconnect for the BB device) has become faulty and no longer responds to key presses).
In the event of a hardware malfunction, the solution would be to replace the failed component. A replacement keyboard costs $15-45 depending on make/model and can be replaced simply by removing the old keyboard and swapping it out for the new one. A logic board replacement is more expensive around $135-$200 because of the nature of the device. It is the central interconnect or "heart" of any mobile device/computer, as such, it is essentially viewed as buy a new device due to the cost incurred.
