Do you mean (like when you first got the PC?) Or do you just want to get your speed back like it used to be?
To (Restore) the Pc you would put the restore cd in the cdrom & start the PC, the restore cd will start up & you follow the on-screen instructions. All personal data will be earsed.

To regain your systems speed.

1. Run a complete system virus-scan. Updated

2. Clean your windows from junk.
& or any one of these free programs:

3. Run system Defrag. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System tools > Defrag. When finished re-start the PC.

Good Luck & Best Wishes!

I have to run my pc in save mode to get on line

Then you have a virus or spyware blocking you from getting online in normal mode. Open the computer in normal mode and go to System Restore and restore it back to a time when this was not happening. If that does not work then open in normal mode, go to system restore and turn it off. This will clean out all restore points which may be hiding the culprit. Now restart the computer in Safe Mode and run all your security software scans and remove all they find.

Slow,doesant load programs

Startup PC, press F8 at instant of turn on... choose Safe Mode. when you are asked if you want safe desktop or system restore choose restore, when you get to the restore menu, choose a date BEFORE you had problems there may only be one or two to choose from. just follow the instructions and you should be back to working with all that behind you.

CPU running slow - I think the pentium went into a slow mode when the CPU fan failed. Dell BIOS does not have an option to restore to normal speed as Phoenix BIOS does.

Do you ever get a warning of low virtual memory? If so, go to Then type in yyour operating system. It will then give you the appropriate propram to clean it up.

Programs are slow . looked and removed programs but they still running in background. tried to resore back to factory settings with red floppy disk , however it says bad data when installing then fails....

If you are comforable.with your computers you can:
  1. Start
  2. Run
  3. smconfig
  4. Start up tab
  5. Then get rid of the thing you don't want to start up and run..
  6. Service tab
  7. Then get rid of the thing you don't want to start up and run..
*Becarefull on what you turn off.
**Best rule of thumb you click (#7) Hide all Microsoft Services.

This will give you the chance to delete them if you find them...

If you are not comportable with this, please to do not do it. Have it looked at by someone that is..

I hope this helps..

PC has slowed down and sometimes freezes

run your anti virus software. check your task manager by pressing ctrl-alt-del and selecting task manager. or right click windows system tray (the one with the time and other icons) then choose task manager. Go to processes tab, click memory to sort and show the program which uses the highest memory. check if the running file is a valid program application. If you are unsure, let me know.

Need restore

Alot of manufactures will include restore disks. If the model above is your model it should have come with them. However if you don't have them anymore you will need to order them from the manufacture either on-line or over the phone. Hope this helps.
