A friend gave me her 3 year old 17" LCD monitor (unbranded made in China) that was working perfectly before I brought it home. When I connected it to my computer and turned it on, the screen flickered white with random horizontal black bars for about 6-7 seconds then went black and the led light went from green to amber. It does this every time I turn it on. Any ideas on what this problem could be. Burned out capacitor maybe? Is it worth trying to diagnose and fix? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Hi Did you check your monitor with another computer? If it has the same problem, there will be something wrong with your LCD monitors. Firstly, Power on both CPUPROBLEM WITH MY SCREEN LT916S - 1.gif and monitor. After it got off by itself, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. Like mine, I can see window image using flashlight and check lamps inside. Some of them were broken and it is easily replaced. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know. I will help you as much as I can. Good luck. Thank you

Sounds like a silly question but have you checked the fuse? If it isn't that then it sounds like a problem with the power board. Check it for burn marks and bulging electrolytic capacitors (they're the little round tube like things that stick up), also check any fuses on the board. If it's the caps or a fuse then just replace them, if something else is burnt out then you'd have to replace the board but you might not be able to find a replacement since it's old.

Monitor goes blank then displays "mode not supported"

INstall the correct Video graphic card driver. The driver CD must have been shipped with the Monitor. Just put that CD in, and follow the on screen instructions.

Hi..there,
The lamps has nothing to do with it... what you need a new backlight inverter or repaired it by replaced a couples of bad capacitors... Sound easy... right! Not so... It's not always the caps problems.

MONITOR MAG LT916S

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

How do you open a Mag Innovision LCD Monitor LT916s ?

There may be some interior support hooks that keep it together.  look for metal clips between the crease of the front and rear pieces.  Definitely use caution with opening as you do not want to force pressure against the screen.
