Recovery of Acer Hard Drive

I am in the process of doing a full recovery on my Acer Laptop. However, when I get to the part when the recovery is complete and I am asked to insert the systems CD again it simply takes me right back through the whole process. What am I doing wrong. Dave.

Thanks Terry. When I do that the original problem which prompted the hard drive recovery is still present. I get the following:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system. Any ideas?

    Dave.

Try to reboot when it asks for the recovery disc at the end, without the disc in the drive.

good luck

do you have the o/s disc or are you trying to recover off the hidden partition on the hard drive?

  • terry Mar 11, 2008

The only other suggestion, i have know this to happen when the drive is about to die if you have a floppy drive in the pc use a boot disc with fdisk on it ,boot from it ,you may have to change the boot sequence in the bios ,when at the command prompt type "fdisk then delete the primary disk or what ever it is set up as, then set it up again,it will do a check of the drive and may fix some problems ,but if its on the way out you will need a new hard drive,

it would be good if you had an old hard drive to try it out first.

if the hard drive is fine then you will have to order a new set of disc from Acer.at a nominal cost

    my email is tkw2201@gmail.com

let me know how you go

    good luck

Acer 5334 stuck on e recovery management screen

By stuck do you mean that each time you boot the computer it goes to this screen? If this is the case then unfortunately this means something has happened to the installation of your operating system on your hard drive and in order to get Windows to load, you will need to perform this recovery. This could be caused by any sort of damage to the partition that the OS installation is on which could be caused by hard drive failure, corrupted data or physical disk damage.

I hope this helps.

How do I reinstall the Operating System on my computer?
Select models, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form.
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.
  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

The disc that you should have received with the laptop should give you this option. Just put it in and reboot and it will bring you to a menu with a few different recovery options to choose from.

My aspire notebook want to reformat but theres no cd or dvd drive on it

It should be a recovery partition on your hard disk. Try this :

Turn on your laptop. On boot, press <F2> to enter BIOS. To enable disk-to-disk recovery (hard disk recovery), activate the BIOS utility, then select Main from the categories listed at the top of the screen. Find D2D Recovery at the bottom of the screen and use the <F5> and <F6> keys to set this value to Enabled. Save and reboot. While the Acer logo is shown, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to enter the recovery process. Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
You could miss this process, if it is so try again.

If there is no recovery partition on the hard drive you need a CD revovery kit for your model. Contact Acer support team and ask for it. If you are lucky you will get one for free or you will pay a very affordable price (10-20$). If not, try to find a friend that has the same version of Windows as yours and you can use it with your activation key (you find it on a label on the bottom of the laptop). Also, you have to purchase an external (USB) optical drive (CDROM/DVDROM)

No operating system

Contact Acer and have them send you a new recovery disk. Be sure to have your computers paperwork handy when you talk to them. The problem" operating system could not be found" could be software or hardware related. I'd try to load the OS using the recovery disk first and see if that fixes the problem... mpawlak

Have a travel mate 2423wxci preinstalled windows xp home edition. Have formated the hard drive but can't find the recovery disk. How do I get one?

Hi,

Did you format the whole drive?

If you didn't fully format the drive then the Recovery Partition could still be intact.

Start the laptop up and at the splash screen keep tapping F10 or ALT+F10 and if the Recovery Partition is intact the laptop will start the recovery process, if you get a message say BOOT EXECUTE/NO then the partition is not there.

You have 2 options now:
  1. Call Acer and get a set of recovery disc's, will cost approx between £20-60 for a set of discs.
  2. Buy a copy of XP home edition and then download all the drivers for your hardware.
Thanks
