Same exact problem. Called a local TV repair place and they wanted $50 just to come out and look at it. They told me to unplug for 24 hours and try again. I unplugged it for 12 hours and it came back on. But now having the problem again. I see that you unplugged it for extended period and still would not work. Once in a while mine will work. It seems to me that it's the power supply, but that's only a guess. The Sony web site has a possible solution. Unplug the set for 1 minute (that apparently does not work) or press the power button and reset button simutaneously on the remote.

The standby light should be blinking in a repeated pattern. Count the blinks and report that number here. This will indicate the circuit that is defective and will allow us to provide a repair suggestion.

Sony Trinitron TV. Worked well last evening. Now picture won't go on. When power is turned on, standby/timer red light flashes, but picture or sound does not work.
Please post the blink count. The standby light should be blinking a repeated count. That will indicate the circuit where the problem resides.
