Nokia 6300 (#)-button won't activate SILENT mode

Hi there folks. Having read about your troubles I got completely dissillusioned about the prefection of the Nokia mobiles. This is my 6th Nokia phone and the previous 5 have worked just fine. My problem is the following. My daughter and I have the same phone Nok-6300 but whereas my daughter's phone can be put into silent mode straight by holding the #-key for some time, mine will not. I can silence it only through the menu or by activating it with the main switch. Any helpful adviceis much apreciated.

    This is a very useful advice, but I have checked the software versions on both ohones and they are the same.

    My suspicions are inclined towards software malfunction.

    Can I solve the problem myself by using the supplied Nok-6300 CD-ROM and a bluetooth USB and perform a software update in such a manner.

    Best regards and thanx,

    I have a similar problem.  I have managed to activate silent mode by using profiles, but I can find no way of deactivating it!  Using the hash key has no effect.  My 6300 has V5 software.

The # key is pressed for 2 seconds to switch your phone from Silent to General profiles. But it seems that on the software version v5 it's disabled. type this to check your version *#0000#
The solution:
Try to "downdate" back to version 4.71 or pressurise Nokia to rectify version 5.

    The only way to do a software update on your phone is via Nokia Software Updater or Nokia PC Suite, using the USB cable for your phone.

    Before updating software you should check that there's a newer version of software available.

    The CD provided with the phone, was probably out of date by the time you bought the phone.

    Read this before doing an update:

    WARNING

    When updating software on Mobs, be sure to:

    HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY INSERTED;

    PUT IT ON GENERAL PROFILE;

    TURN OFF YOUR PIN NUMBER;

    CONNECT YOUR CHARGER TO YOUR MOB AND SWITCH IT ON;

    DO NOT ----- DO NOT ---- TOUCH YOUR PHONE WHILE THE UPDATE IS GOING ON;

    THIS CAN TAKE 30 MINUTES OR MORE.

    And obviously don't unplug the phone from the PC.

    Be patient, you may have to do a restart or two on your mob afterwards. Even remove the battery to get it going again (not recommended). But give it plenty of time.

    --------------------------------------

    It is also wise not to use your PC while updating software, just in case the PC freezes.

    If the PC freezes during an update, you're up the creek without a paddle...

    I did an update on a Sony Eric 810i it took nearly two hours.

    --------------------------------------

    More... Your phone turns itself on and off, sometimes more than once while updating software, you should leave it well alone during the update.

How to do silent in Nokia e71

Press and hold down # key, it'll automatically activate your phone to silent mode. If you do the same again when it's in Silent Mode, General Mode will be activated. Good luck.

try long-pressing on the end call button, then long press on the # key, this will revert to the general profile which would have the audio back.

Nokia 6300

hi, have you tried enter setup then profile then select general this should then set your phone back to normal if not then instead of going to general go to silent and change the settings under the silent profile, like turn ringtone on and select ringtone.
Try the first option first as this is quick and easy failing than then just change the settings under the silent profile then you can even change the name from silent to general then you can change one of the other profiles to silent so try it then get back to me if you need further assistance ok
