I totally do not understand the answer provided. My Linksys NH1005, v.2 is lit, hooked up, and should be ready to go, but I only get internet on one PC. The Linksys website tells me to enter my router's IP address, but I have no clue what that is. They also suggest resetting the router, but there is no switch on my router to do that. Help!

It would seem that the modem has only one ip address to offer. The switch won't allocate ip addresses to everything, for that you will need a cheap router. Install, enable DHCP and Away you go!

Good luck. Hope this helped.

I cant get my home computer and lap top to both go on line at the same time

A "hub" just "splits" the Internet connection.
Each computer connected to the hub gets an IP-address from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
However, some ISPs only allow each customer to use _one_ IP-address.
Ask your ISP for the capability to obtain a second IP-address.

I connected my modem to my router and then plugged my computers to the router, but only one of them has access to internet.

Hi,

with default settings on the Router, only one computer will be having access to the internet.
To allow multiple computers to connect to the internet through a single modem, You have to configure NAT ( Network Address Translation) on the router.

NAT basically hides your internal IPS of the computers and goes outside with the IP which you gets from the service provider through Modem.
If you dont enable NAT on the router then you have only one IP for all your computers to go out and only one of them can go to internet with that IP.

Best Regards

Linksys NH1005 V2.2 Ethernet 10/100 5 Port Hub Router. I cant get the other computers connected to the hub to connect to the internet. I've tried everything.

Hello!

I will just illustrate on how to configure or to set the correct IP addressing;

Assuming that we will manually put IP address on each computer:

PC1:

IP Address: 192.168.1.13
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preffered DNS server: 192.168.1.1

***note that 192.168.1.1 is the IP Address that your ISP gives to you, so on the other computer (see below)

PC2:

IP Address: 192.168.1.18
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preffered DNS server: 192.168.1.1

Hope I was able to help.

Could be a few different problems. One is your internet connection speed. If its below 5Ms I would say you are blowing out your bandwidth and it your ISP can't keep up, thus causing a slow connection or even some time-outs. If you are at or above 5M, check what ports you have your connections in. Some hubs are set specifically to take the ISP in a certain port and have it looped through another port. I'd start there.

How do you connect a Linksys NH1005 v2 hub and whats the difference between a hub and a router?

A router takes an Internet connection, routes it to several other computers and provides each of these computers with their own IP address.

A Hub, on the other hand, will split the Internet, but the various ports on the hub will all have a single IP address. Makes it hard to use a computer for much of anything, if it is the second computer, you'll have trouble getting access.

Slow internet.

Your hub can support more that fiber optic puts out. Problem might be a slow computer. Run a internet speed test see what it gets through hub and then straight to the computer bypassing the hub. If possible. If there is a big difference either way what ever is slower is most likley the issue.

NH1005 network hub

I assume that besides the 2 computers you also have a cable or dsl modem connected to the hub in order to provide the actual connection to the internet.

The problem may be the fact that this is a hub and not a router or gateway. The problem is that although it will allow you connect more than 1 computer to the internet, it does not do any good if you Internet Service Provider only supplies you with 1 IP address. You need something that handles Network Address Translation (NAT), like a router or gateway device.

I hub is just a network distribution device.
It doesn't control IP addressing, or aid in connecting to the internet., you need a router for that.

What is the problem you are having?

Network Hub or Router - World of Warcraft - NH1005 Linksys

I recommend purchasing a small switch because what it sounds like is that the traffic being generated from and to the two computers and then out to the Internet is killing your hub. A switch would help reduce some of the traffic.
