Question about IBM ThinkPad T20 2647 Notebook

1 Answer

Internet Connection My older brother gave me his IBM thinkpad 2647 to use and I can't figure out how to get an internet connection through wireless or ethernet. I have a 3com Megahertz 10/100 CardBus PC card with XJACK Connector which is the only way I can get the ethernet to come up at all on my modem. I have set up my initial connection to the internet through a friends laptop but still can can't get anywhere with mine. I tried calling the Att highspeed/dsl/wireless tech support and they couldn't get me anywhere. If you can offer some sort of assistance please do. I am frustrated and losing patience...

I have an IBM Thinkpad 2647 and although I can get internet connection, I can only really get it in my house and at the computer repair shop. I tried connecting a couple of miles away from where I live and got nothing . I have a 54M USB Wireless Adaptor plugged in the back.

    Thanks

A few years ago, i too had an IBM thinkpad and encountered some issues as well when connecting to the internet.

The IBM 2647 does not have a built in wireless card, meaning that you need to purchase one from your local electronics store to use wireless internet. The software provided with these CD's can often be quite helpful and will help you set up the connection.

The 2647 only supports an analog modem connection, and the modem in the area you are attempting to connect via ethernet may use a digital modem. Adapters are available although they are quite pricey (ranging from $200 and up.)

Hope this helps.

Can't connect wirelessly through IBM T23 with XP

First you most likly need a wireless card now along with a wirless card youll need a modem card and ethernet card secondly the bluetooth device may not be working out the greatest so if you downt want all the crads I suggest getting a usb wireless connection which is specifaclly for high speed wireless connections. These can be purchased at any computer store.

Cannot install wireless card

Does it show up on the driver as installed? If it dosen't, i think you might of used the wrong driver. Some laptosp use many different cards so you might of used the wrong one.

Wireless connection

Hi,

There are a few requirements other than the laptop and the wireless card. You need to also have an Wireless AP/Router that must be connected to the modem that connects to your ISP. All your PCs must then connect to this router either using the wired/Ethernet ports or WiFi.

If such a device (WiFi AP/Router) already exists and is connected to your modem and your other PC(s) are tied up to it and can access the Internet, you need to install the drivers (in a CD that came with the wireless card) to your IBM ThinkPad. Thereafter, you need to configure your laptop's wireless networking to access the AP/router. Your AP/Router must also be configured to accept wireless clients.

Please post back with brand/model of your AP/Router.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
