I was in the middle of a trip and the unit turned off. Can't get it to go back on. Have tried other plugging it into the other car with no success. Have plugged other things into my cigarette lighter, and they work. Help!! I am completely reliant upon my Garmin, and she's (see?) even a year old. Have only had her for about 6 months at the most.
I had the same issue. There are two things I had to do.
1. Replace the fuse in the cable that connects into the cigarette lighter (reason mine wasn't charging in the car).
2. Reset the unit. See the manual page 31 on Resetting your c340. Once I did that it has worked fine since. http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/StreetPilotc340_OwnersManual.pdf

WORKING FINE, LOW BATTERY WARNING, PLUGGED INTO AUTO CHARGER, STOP WORKING. NEEDED IT, SPOILED TRIP CAME HOME!
The battery was completely dead. I must not have had the cord plugged in to my lighter, or maybe it wasn't sitting properly on the cradle, and it was running on battery power. I found that when I charged it by the computer, it was ok. It is working with no problems, now.

My C340 Street Pilot was working fine during a trip then just shut off (while connected to charger) no warning or anything. I can not seem to get it to turn back on or charge anymore. I tried plugging it into the computer and the computer does not recognize the device.
My c340 had been working great. Suddenly, I got a "external power not available" or something like that. After a while, it warned me of a weak battery, and despite replugging the cable into the unit and into my auto power socket, it went black and will not operate. I haven't as yet tried charging via computer yet.
