Hello...try to disconnect one unit at a time and see if the computer starts..plus check the pwr connector and any other loose connectors i.e the power on switch connector...and be sure that you have the index marking on the ide- connectors "flat cable" pointing to pin no:1 on your units...good luck ...Ron

Is the new hard drive replacing the first, or is this a second drive?
Is there a specific error message the computer is reporting when it fails?
If you go into the BIOS, does it show that it recognizes the second drive?

The first thing I would check would be the jumpers. On the back of the drive, between the power connector and the IDE cable, are the jumpers. Usually on the top of the drive is a diagram showing the proper positions for various settings.

There are three choices that are significant: Master (or Primary), Slave (or Secondary) and CS (Cable Select). Usually CS is the appropriate setting. If you kept the original drive plugged into the same position on the cable, and both drives are on CS, then you should be ok. However, it may be better to force the issue. Set the original (boot) drive to PRIMARY and the new drive to SECONDARY and try again.

The DVD player on my Dell Inspiron-530S won't work, you can hear it like it's trying to load but the play screen never comes up.

no, your dvd drive has gone bad. to check if it is working or not your try to manually open the content of the cd and try copy on the hard drive. if it copies fine then the cd is good if not cd is bad. you might get a error message of bad sector or data randomization.
if it does not open at all the cd drive is bad. raaj_k001@in.com

Disc drive won't open

CD/DVD drive?

Some have a tiny hole, right under the tray that comes out. Use a paperclip in the hole to manually open the tray.

(Some desktop computer towers have a door in front, that needs to be eased open first, then access to the actual CD/DVD drive unit can be obtained)

Dell Inspiron 531 (desktop) won?t turn on/boot

You've either got a bad motherboard or a bad processor (I'd lean to the motherboard being bad). I would honestly take this into a computer repair shop and have them check both.

Need to replace the hard drive

Very easy to do. You will need an antistatic wrist strap. Unscrew the screw/thumb screws on the side of the case which slides off. slide the case door off, connect your anti static wrist strap to you and a metal part of the case, to ensure you are grounded and don't fry any parts. Check what sort of hard disk your motherboard supports, it could be IDE or Sata. Older ones use IDE. Get a hard disc to match and plug it in where your old hard drive was. The hard drive is probably held in by clips or screws. remove them and place the new hard drive in the hard drive bays. Wire it up. You will need to install an operating system on your new hard drive. This can be done by getting a windows boot cd, entering the bios on startup by hitting the delete or f12 key/ the specified key. Then in the bios go to boot device priority set it to CD. Then reboot and it will install it on your new hard drive. Hope that helps.

Trying to instal a new HD in a Dell Optiplex GX260 Mini tower and the it wil llet me load the OS on but when it goes to reboot to start the setup it says no HD found.

You need to be sure that your computer is starting from the CD, not the hard drive.

On boot you should have the option to choose a start up. Try F12, or F2. Then choose your CD/DVD device.

You should be able to run the install from there. If not, you'll have to change the start up device in the BIOS, which is a whole other conversation.

Dell 3000 PC is extremely loud like a vacumn cleaner right next to your ear... and gets louder and louder throughout the day. Have ran disk clean, Registry Mechanic, and Disk Defrag. Lots of room left on...

Check your cpu fan, chassis fan, and the fan on the power supply. If all the fans are working then the bearings in the hard drive is about to go out. That is if you are not using a cd or dvd rom.
