There is switch which senses whether the lid is closed or open. its either sticky or loose on its mounting. Or the portion of the lid which operates this switch is cracked / damaged.

Washer will not drain

By lifting the lid you are performing the job of the timer. In your unit you have a neutral drain transmission and the timer is programmed to end the washing cycle by stopping the motor. When it starts back up, it reverses and the transmission is in the neutral state. The water drains and after about 3-4 minutes, the timer is suppose to disconnect power to the motor thus stopping the transmission inducing the transmission to shift into spin. When it starts back up, it spins. So when you lift the lid, you pause the motor and the transmission shifts. Close it and it spins. Replace the timer and you will be fine. If I can help further.....

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

No sounds or movenent

Possible bad lid switch. You should hear it click when lid closes; if not in needs to be replaced. Inexpensive part. Please contact me if you need further help or leave feedback if appropriate as that is how I get paid. Thanks for letting me help you!

Kenmore Model 80 get stuck after agitate and will not spin out

I have seen this on the same model recently, try lifting the lid during the neutral drain and reclose, if it engages spin then. then most likely your timer is bad too. The timer after two minutes of "neutral drain" will stop the motor (same effect as lid sw) then restart after a pause with spin/drain. this pause shifts the transmission to its next cycle which is spin. I found burned contacts in timer. Your timer list price is over $100 but easy to replace

WASHER FILLS BUT THEN WON'T START. WILL LIFT THE LIFT AND CLOSE SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN WILL START. NOW DOESN'T START AT ALL. IS THIS THE SWITCH ON THE DOOR, SHOWING IT ISN'T CLOSED SO IT WON'T START?

must be a whirpool or kenmore shut lid try pressing down on left rear corner be sure lid hinge screws are tight then raise lid on left corner under top out of sight you will feel small lever push toward back of washer slightly and then try again also if lid center has popped down push up slightly in center till lid pops back up sen it happen once where washer would not spin

Maytag Atlantis washer will not drain and spin unless you lift the lid

The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.
