So it doesn't freeze the ice at all?

Could be a thermistat problem. If there is ice on the termistat then the ice maker may believe that the water is already fozen and dumps the water thinking it is ice.

One of the easiest ways of to rectify this is to let the unit defrost fully for about 24hours. Or you could open it up and look for any ice build-up.

Did you follow these directions from the manual?

Ice Maker and Storage Bin Turning the Ice Maker On/Off

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer compartment. To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position. To manually turn the ice maker off, slide the control to the OFF (right) position. NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will remain in the ON (left) position. REMEMBER: n

Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced. n

The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals (such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided, make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well maintained. n

Do not use anything sharp to break up the ice in the bin or bucket. This can cause damage to the ice container and the dispenser mechanism. n

Do not store anything on top of or in the ice maker or storage bin.

Here is the troubleshooting steps for the ice maker from the manual:

Ice and Water The ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice n

Is the ice maker wire shutoff arm or switch (depending on models) in the OFF position? n

Is the water line shutoff valve to the refrigerator turned on? n

Is the freezer temperature cold enough to produce ice? Wait 24 hours after ice maker hookup for ice production. n

Has the ice maker just been installed? Wait 72 hours for full ice production to begin. n

Does the ice maker mold have water in it or has no ice been produced? Make sure your refrigerator has been connected to a water supply and the supply shutoff valve is turned on. n

Has a large amount of ice just been removed? Allow 24 hours for ice maker to produce more ice. n

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? The filter may be clogged or installed incorrectly. n

Is an ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm? For models with an interior ice bin, remove the ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil. n

Is a reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to your cold water supply? See Water Supply Requirements in either the Installation Instruction booklet or the Use & Care Guide.

The ice dispenser will not operate properly Check the following: n

Is the freezer door closed completely? n

Is the ice bin installed correctly? n

Is there ice in the bin? n

Has the ice frozen in the ice bin? n

Is ice stuck in the delivery chute? n

Has the wrong ice been added to the bin? Use only cubes produced by the current ice maker. n

Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the ice bin? Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice bin. See Ice Maker and Storage Bin.” n

Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing crushed ice? Change the ice button from crushed to cubed. If cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for “crushed” ice and begin dispensing again. n

Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

    Just found this:

Apperently the optical emmiter and receiver circuits commonly cause all sort of ice maker problems. Maybe you should consider replacing these board as it seems quite easy to do.

You know, I thought of this earlier, if ice is forming in the tray but not dropping in the bin then the heater in the tray is not melting the ice to let it drop. Maybe look into a new ice cube mold/heater. Or look at the circuit that controls the heater.

Mine makes ice and does not dump it... unless the bin is out! I took out the bin to begin trouble shooting and had to stop to answer the phone. While on the phone, I heard the ice drop. Not sure how to fix it yet but it seems like the ice maker is lower than it should be.

SOURCE: kenmore ice maker filled with ice, but not dumping. light blinking next to ice maker switch

unfortunately, the heater is molded into the unit.
without testing every part of the icemaker there is now way to be certain which of the following has failed...

#11 is the heater assembly
#17 is the thermostat that controls the heater.

An entire unit replacement is not necessary.

Hope this helps.

I have a whrilpool refrigerater the ice maker will not fill with water?

Ice makers can clog. The water valve can stick open or closed or even not work at all. The water fill nozzle can clog with ice or food. If the unit has been moved the water line could be kinked or the water filter may be clogged. Maybe the water valve for the ice maker water line is turned off. Is there one under the sink? Inside most ice makers there is a thermostat that tells the ice maker that the water is frozen and it's time to dump the ice cubes. That starts a geared motor running to dump out the cubes. And in some cases a mold heater is turned on to help break the ice cubes loose. A lot of ice makers have a cam attached to the motor that turns with the shaft. When the ice cubes are gone the cam starts a timer to refill the ice maker with fresh water to make some more ice cubes. Most "fill" cycles of ice makers are "timed fill". The fill cycle has to start and stop to get fresh water into the ice maker. There may be another thermostat that monitors the air temperature where the ice maker is mounted. If that thermostat thinks the air is not cold enough to freeze water nothing happens. If all the steps don't happen at the right time no ice cubes are made.

Why did the ice maker stopped making ice

You have two sides to the water control valve so look inside your ice maker and see if after the last ice harvest your ice maker refilled with water. If half full or empty try filling the ice maker with tap water up to the top of the the ice maker. If the ice maker dumps the ice after the water freezes then does not refill with water this will point to the WR57X10051 Dual Water Inlet Valve If the ice maker does nothing once filled with tap water will point to the WR30X10093 Ice Maker Assembly and will be better to repace. I will be here should you have more questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

No ice.

Pout about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it dumps but does not refill , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece the wall water line connects to behind the refrig ) . Also check the tube which fills the ice maker as it will freeze up , not letting water go into the ice maker . This is also caused by a bad water valve .
If the ice maker does not dump the water poured into it , replace the ice maker .
Also , check that the coils are clean under the front of the refrig , as this will cause slow ice production and can cause the ice maker not to dump due to too warm of temperature . Ice maker has to be 5 degrees to operate .

No ice Ice maker does not fill up with water

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then check the fill tube going to the ice maker , to see if it is frozen up inside . If it is , replace the water valve behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to on the refrig . If the ice maker dumps the cubes , but does not refill with water , then the water valve is bad . If the ice maker does not dump the cubes , then replace the ice maker .

Ice maker will not make ice. no ice is being made. no water appears to be in ice cube making area. can hear a ticking noise from icemaker area

Carefully pour water from small glass into ice maker, until the cavity is near filled. Wait a few hours. If it dumps ice, you can usually rule out the ice maker.
If ice maker dumps, then it will be either a bad water valve, Ice building up in fill pipe going into the icemaker, or blocked water line that runs from your water source to the machine.
Caution. If the fill tube going into the ice maker is filled with ice do NOT
use heat such as a hair dryer to melt it. It will melt things you do not want to melt. If it is this problem, you must also replace the water valve because it is leaking slowly causing your problem.
Lastly, in rare cases, the microswitch in the ice maker fails and does not allow water to enter the icemaker.

Ice maker doesn't work

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps the cubes , but doesn't fill with water , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece that the wall water line connects to on the fridge ) . Also check to be sure that the fill tube from the back of the freezer to the ice maker , isn't blocked with ice , as this is caused by a seeping bad water valve . If the ice maker doesn't dump the cubes , after freezing , then replace the ice maker . Also check to make sure the coils under the front of the refrig , are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc.

Ice maker not working

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . Also , check the black fill hose that fill the ice maker , to make sure it is not frozen . If the ice maker dumps the cubes , then replace the water inlet valve . If the ice maker holds the ice , and does not dump , replace the ice maker . When you open the freezer door , the laser light , should blink twice , then pause ,repeatedly . If you close the flap on the left side , the laser should go off . These are indication that the optics are good . If you open the door , and no laser light , then that means that the ice maker is in the harvest (dump) mode . If it stays this way , ice maker is bad .

Not producing ice

There are several possibilities. The dual water control valve is defective going to the ice maker, defective ice maker thermostat; frozen water fill tube leading to the ice maker is blocked with ice. You can see if ice maker is working by filling it with tap water and waiting to see if it dumps. If it does not empty the icemaker of the ice I would think ice maker thermostat. If it dumps ice and does not refill I would say you need a new dual water control valve. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) I will need that number to help you solve the sound alert coming from your refrigerator. Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Installed replacement Icemaker but will not dump new ice...

Either your freezer is not cold enough or you got a defective ice maker. It needs to be 15 degrees or colder to make ice. The water may be frooze but not cold enough to close the internal thermostat inside the ice maker. If your freezer is colder that 15 degrees, take the ice maker back to Sears, you got a lemon. Good luck!, Mack
