The liteon dvdrw (that came with the computer when it was new) will not burn a DVD. It used to burn dvd's but not any more. It will play a dvd. It will burn a cd. I've tried all types of DVD's.
The computer had a virus. The virus disabled the drive as well as the USB ports. I got rid of the virus, the USB ports work again, but the DVDRW will not burn a DVD. When I use the Sonic software to burn a disc, It will not recognize that there is a DVD in the drive.
Perhaps you should reinstall the Sonic stuff, in case it was affected since the virus cleanup. If the OS had some of its components quarantined from virus contamination, you are probably stuck reinstalling the OS...though of course you can search the web (and not least Microsoft.com if that's the sort of OS you use) for healing 'media detection' issues (w.r.t. your particular OS.)
