Re: black dots during gameplay only on 360
If its still in warrenty send the xbox to microsoft you can check if its in warrenty by going to xbox.com under the register tab,if its not this is how i solved it.i opened up the xbox and took off the heatsinks both of them theres one for the cpu and the gpu when i did i found that the conductive heat paste they used was only covering half of the chip face so i cleaned off the old paste and put new stuff on and fitted back together and thats it works great ,the dots indicate that there is a problem with the gpu, perhaps from over heating
I had this problem with my very first Xbox 360. It started showing little white dots instead of black though. I just dealt with it for a while, and it finally got to the point where it would fill up the screen fully, to where I could only see my gun in Halo 3 and that was about it. I was forced to call Microsoft and have them fix it.

I hate to break it to you, but you may have gotten the Red Ring Of Death. It happens when playing a game and it is transmitted through online play through Xbox Live. 3 red lights will appear around the power button when your console has become infected. The Red Ring of Death may have infected your console causing it to shut down. Most Xbox 360 consoles won't turn back on but some do turn back on but they just won't play games, they will freeze up and have the dotted lines and make the buzzing noise. I'm sorry, but I think you may need a new console. You're in luck if it's still under warranty. Hope this helps!!!!
Right, lay your Xbox360 down dont keep it upright, try installing COD4 to your hard drive then once installed go into you game library and click on cod4 and click play from hard drive ( and if you dont know how to install games to the hard drive make sure your xbox isnt on automatic start when a disc is inserted and put the disc in and when it says play cod4 press Y and then click install to hard drive) hope this helped....
This may be an indication of the graphics processor overheating. When the card overheats it tends to leave artifacts like black dots. Newer games typically put harder stresses on consoles than older titles. This would also explain why the dots aren't showing up in menus, menus don't require as much juice as game play.
I would blow out the system with some canned air and try playing the system in a cool, well ventilated area to see if that helps. Sometimes this can be a permanent issue with the graphics processor and you would need to send it in to Microsoft.
try to keep the box in a spot where it and the power brick can stay cool.... same thing happened to my first box eventually it got the rings of death like so many other xboxs out there... so if keeping it well aired dont work you need to ring micro soft and have it sent off for repairs before it suffers a system failure
