Thanks for the comments. For the GTM 20 that I have, the tip of the plug is not remove-able nor the tip turn-able. Looking at the tail plug section, there is a rectangle approx 1/16 inch high x 1/4 inch wide hole. I am guessing there there is some special tool needed to insert into that hole so that the tail of the plug can be twist off. BTW, the tail portion of the plug is turn-able. Thanks for any advice. Thanks for the comments. For the GTM 20 that I have, the tip of the plug is not remove-able nor the tip turn-able. Yes! The GTM-20 is a charger with a built-in traffic receiver. The charger plugs into the cradle for the Nuvi 660 and then the Nuvi 660 snaps into the cradle.
However to receive traffic with the GTM-20, you will need to purchase a subscription, either yearly or lifetime. The traffic receiver receives traffic information from FM radio broadcast stations, which broadcast traffic data.
If the GTM-20 Traffic Receiver is functioning, you should see a blue diamond on the main screen and you should be able to find a traffic icon in the menu.
If the diamond is grayed out, then the traffic receiver hasnt locked yet. If the traffic symbol is completely missing, then yes it could be a problem with the traffic receiver or the cradle or plug that plugs into the cradle.
The Nuvi 6xx receives traffic information from the GTM-20 receiver through the plug that plugs into the cradle.
The GTM 20 can be repaired. It's likely that either you're not using the correct fuse or there's a short circuit. The short circuit would be caused by the metal tip, spring or fuse touching the outer part of the plug. There's a repair kit available from http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-replacement-parts-for-gtm2x.html
Just so happens that my connector lost the red and purple wires, so the picture you have was a great help. Looking at the connector, the wire colors are red, purple, yellow, blue, black, green, brown.
from the photo i see , it has a screw on plastic tip in the top of the plug in for the cigarette lighter look in there, be careful not to lose any parts when you unscrew the top
If yours has a plastic tip at the silver metal contact, just unscrew the plastic part between the silver ring and the silver tip. Counter clockwise! Fuse should fall out but take cautions not to lose the silver tip part. I you do it can be found at www.gpsnstuff.com
