Question about Canon PIXMA MP530 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Canon MP 530 yellow cartridge reported as duplicate, it is not, won't work

After the first week of perfection, my MP 530 started to tell me that I had two yellow cartridges in it at the same time. I don't, obviously. It is a real hassle to trick it into thinking that I'm correct: I have to open the top, wet the yellow cartridge contacts with spit, and re-insert, while at the same time turning the machine off. Then when I turn it on it will work for about 10 minutes before it tells me this again, and refuses to work. Now today (I've owned it about 4 months, but haven't printed 100 sheets through it yet) it starts to tell me the red cartridge is very low. It isn't. I long for the days of old, when I could just run out of ink and figure it out on my own, but the printer would work and not act so stupid. Any ideas?

My printer tells me that the yellow cartridge is "missing" or "empty". It is neither. When I open the top, the red light on the yellow cartridge is off. I remove the cartridge, snap it back in, the red light tuns on, I close the top, and the error message comes back. I have tried 3 brand new cartridges with the same result. The printer is ~3 months old and essentially un-useable.

I have the same problem with my 530. I get an error message that tells me to check the yellow cartridge. I open it up and see that the red light on the yellow cartridge is out. I unclip and reclip it and it works for a few minutes and says the same thing all over again, now it won't work it all. I've remove and replaced it more time than I can count and it still gives me an error message and simply will not work! A total waste.

    Cropp and Q4SteveB:

Cropp: I tried your fix, but it didn't help. For one night, I thought you had it, but then it failed. I double-checked all your advice, and it was still all as you told me, but still failing on the front of the printer itself. The alarm light goes on, the whole unit won't work.

Q4SteveB: Unfortunately, it is no longer only one week old, as I am very slow to act on anything, and now it is over 4 months old as I wrote above. I have put in a new yellow cartridge and a new magenta one, and for now it is behaving well. I even printed a group of photos with it. But Canon should listen to this forum and offer us some real cure that doesn't involve me buying some fix for this. I hope they notice the issue, as this is terrible advertising for them.

I've been the having the same problem with my MP530.  It keeps telling me to check the ink, sometimes it's the black cartridge, other times it's the magenta cartridge.  Taking the cartridge out and putting it back in, solved the problem the first few times.  Now nothing works and I can't use the printer.

Vent on the top of the cartridge? Huh? I'm really going to look for this, but I've never seen one before. But now I'm in bed about to sleep so it won't happen tonight. I'll update you on my success later. Hmmm. Seems if this was a critical step I would have seen this warning somewhere to do this. Did I miss it in some obvious location in the instructions?

I get the error message..."More than one ink tank of the following color is installed. Black [8]

Use only one ink tank per color at a time."

Its the correct ink, it has two black tanks. This causes not only a printing problem, but also a problem with sending faxes!

I would like to know if anyone else has had a problem with the power supply packing up after the 1st set of original cartridges was still in use. Other than that I cannot fax more than 1 (one) page at a time! The document feeder grabs all the paper at the same time.

Partserve, agent for Canon in South Africa is totally useless and am still waiting for replies I send them a year ago!

    Please can you assist?

I have the same problem with the color Cyan.  I can't get to the menu to disable the ink level monitor.  The darn thing is just frozen with "Check Ink U071 C".  I tried the spit thing to no avail, and will not waste money on a new cartridge since all other reports suggest no luck.

I had a similar situation with my new MP530. I emailed Canon and they sent me the following steps to diagnose the error. After doing so, it also indicated that the yellow and possibly 5PGBK cartridges were bad.

Canon sent me replacement tanks and I haven't seen the error since installing them.

    1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks.

    2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover.

    3. Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank properly. If it does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, as they are not currently installed in the printer.

    4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank.

    5. If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks are
installed, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, if
you inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another ink
tank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of the
issue is the last ink tank.

I have the exact same problem (yellow is duplicate) and/or cyan and the blue are low (which they are not). The printer worked perfectly for about a year . . . and now I wnat to throw it through a window. I'm sad -- I love this dang printer.

I had the same problem with a cartridge for awile and was cursing the machine regularly. Then when the printing began to be faint I realized that what Canon was trying to tell me was that I had neglected to open the vent on the top of the cartridge before installing it.

Good luck.

It would seem that Canon has problems with the 'chips' fitted to the Yellow Cartridge in particular ...

Life is too short to waste time trying to fix it .. since it's only a week old, I suggest you take the whole unit back to the shop and demand a replacement ...

Dear RL

try this

Printers and Faxes
right click on your printer icon
click on "Printing Preferences"
in the dialog box, click on "Maintenance"
click on "View Printer Status"
in the dialog box, click on "Options"
then deselect the "Enable Status Monitor" option

You may get a dialog box asking you something (I didn't get one) but just hold the "Resume" button down for more than 5 seconds and all will be well.

When you need to check the levels, you can either look at the cartridges physically or enable the status monitor (if you are still using 'legal' cartridges in one or more slots).

if not work

try to change your catridge with new one, or you can buy eraser chipset about $ 5-6
with this chip you can refill your ink with any compatible PGI-5

Paper won't feed in my Pixma MP 530, and I get a flashing alarm.

You need to tell us in what is the sequence the orange and green lamps flash. This will tell us what error you are getting. its more accurate than any error code given by the pc.

This Canon MP530 will print a nozzle check with no problems. It will color copy with no problem. No ink cartridge lights are on. It will not print a report or copy in black. What's wrong?

On your nozzle check, do you see the grid at the top (indicated by red arrow in picture below)? If you don't see this, your pigment black nozzles aren't working. The black bar at the bottom is from the dye black nozzles (small black tank). You may have either plugged nozzles or a bad print head.

Canon mp 530 error u043 cant get rid of it

It is registering a empty ink cartridge. If you had the cartridge refilled instea of replacing the cartridge that is what happened. The chip on the cartridge wont register the refilled ink and tells the printer it is empty.

I am trying to reset the empty ink cartridge error code on a Canon mp-530 multifunction printer after installing a refilled a refilled black ing cartridge

Hi, did you refill yourself or did you buy a refilled cartridge. If you purchased a refilled cartridge and the chip is missing, you will need to take the chip off your old cartridge and install on the refilled cartridge.

Need Linux drivers for canon mp 530

Buy a HP.

Seriously, Canon offer zero linux support - something I should have researched myself before getting a nice shiny doorstop.

There IS a paid-for driver that works perfectly - turboprint - but it really sticks in my craw that there isn't a normal, free driver from canon.

C*nts more like.
