Re: my toshiba M45 takes several times to turn on,
What is your operating system? if you're familiar of what you're using, then it might be a hardware issue, please be specific, if you're using windows, try running your OS to safe mode by turning it on and pressing F8 after bios load, it might be your Operating System is corrupted...

if nothing is coming up no activity or fan no cpu running im thinking to get your motherboard tested if your cpu is running try replacing your backlight or inverter both are relatively low in cost good luck and hopefully helpful
This is normally a motherboard issue. I had one with the same symptoms and I had to replace the motherboard. Worked great after the board was replaced. I had to replace the board because unlike your issue mine stopped working all together. It did take a while before it quit though. Just a note: I have had to replace several of these motherboards for customers as well. If your LCD is broken, you may be better off to save your data and put it in a new laptop that would include a warranty unless your super fond of the machine or you have access to inexpensive parts.
Hope this helps...
im gussing your computer has ben over heated before and now the fan has ben damaged.
I had the same problem with my computer i took it to the repair man and he replaced the fan and filter and it was now running alot better.
BIOS passwords on Toshiba notebooks have to be reset by an authorized service technician who has the CD available to run the utility. Their notebooks don't contain a battery reset to erase the password. It was done as a safety feature to prevent theft from happening and it is a very good one.
If you take it into Best Buy or a computer dealer to get it done, you might have to prove that you are the new owner of the computer before it can happen.
well the adapter for toshiba laptop is weak, and the most common method is to use a multimeter with the electroprobes connect to the anode and cathode.if it is normal, the pointer will fix in a short time.
I just went through all this myself. First I had the inverter replaced ($200) and it worked great for a week, then the screen went out again. It turned out that the LCD needed replaced ($200 more, labor comped from the first no-fix). There's a problem with the Toshiba LCDs that makes them burn out sooner than other brands. Since the replaced screen, no problems (2 months). Sucks, I know.
