Recently my printer showed a flashing "Drum" led light. Everything still worked good so I ignored the light implementing the strategy of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I recently moved to a new location and when I reconnected my printer the drum light stayed lit continuously and the printer, while responding to a request for printing, will only warm up and then does nothing, How do I check the drum to see if it needs replacing and how do I replace it if that is what is needed?

Reset the drum counter by opening the front panel, then hold down the power button for about 5seconds until ALL the leds are on. Then realease the button and close the front panel. Your coutner will be resetted.
Turn it on and when all the LEDs light up, THEN press the Go button. One or more LEDs will stay lit and the others will be off. Look in the user manual (you can find it online at the Brothers site if you don't have one). There is a chart in the Troubleshooting section that will tell you what problem your particluar combination of "lit" buttons indicates. It may suggest fixes, or depending on the problem, tell you to see a repair person.
Have you already replaced the drum? If you have not replaced the drum that may be why you are getting smudges. If you have already replaced the drum, here is the reset procedure.
The Drum LED blinks if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.
The Drum LED continues to blink if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum follow the instructions below:
Open the front cover of the printer.
Press and hold down Go button for about 4 seconds until al the LEDs light up. Once all 4 LEDs are lit, release the Go button.
Close the front cover.
CautionReset the drum counter only when you replaced the drum unit with a new one.Related Models
