Try resetting the iPod, this usually works.

As follows:

How to reset iPod To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:iPod nano (3rd generation) iPod classic iPod (5th generation) iPod nano (2nd generation)iPod nano iPod with color display (iPod photo) iPod (Click Wheel) iPod mini iPod mini (2nd generation)

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds.

You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button. When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

My son has a nano ipod and he locked it with a commbination and forgot it how do i unlock it?

Try plugging it into the computer your son normally syncs it with. Then open iTunes.
After iTunes recognizes the nano, you can eject and disconnect the iPod from the computer. It should be unlocked.

If that does not work, then you'll have to restore the iPod (which will remove *all* music, etc. from the iPod).
You can do that like this:
plug it in to your computer
launch iTunes when iTunes recognizes your nano, Resync the iPod (so the data is saved on the computer) Then click on "Restore" (on the "Summary" tab).

Then follow the onscreen instructions.

You'll need to resync all your music etc. to get it back on the iPod.

Hope this helps!

I changed the battery on my ipod nano and now it is locked. I connected to my computer and restored but it is still locked. what is the code?

you reset settings in settings section in the i pod If you forgot the code:
Plug your Ipod into a computer (Dock or Cord)
Access your iPod, find a way to see hidden files (in windows you can via file options, mac... i don't know)
Once you can see a folder called "iPod_Control" enter it

Next you will see a folder called "Devices" Delete it.

Eject your iPod, once you start it up, it will ask you what language you prefer. ohh, and if you put your iPod back in your computer, and go back to iPod_control the folder devices is restored.

Last step, go to screen lock, and put in a new password (or just leave it blank)

Your songs and playlists are still intact :D :D

I hope this helps and good luck. Please vote and leave a message.

My nano 4th G will only come on when i plug it in to my comp

Your battery is most likely dead. Very dead. Google "iPod repairs" in your country and they might be able to replace it. Otherwise you can get an exchange unit from Apple. Take it to your nearest Authorised Apple Service Centre and they will get it exchanged in a couple of days. Unfortunately this might cost almost as much as a new one.

Ipod nano wnt let me "eject" bc it says "bc it contains files that are in use by another application"

I had the same problem with my ipod, and instead of ejecting it in itunes, I eject the ipod with the Safely Remove Hardware.

Check if it works with you too...

Lock my iPOd

plug it into your comp and iTunes will unlock it for you
This support document also provides additional information on locking and unlocking the iPod. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the iPod by doing the following:
Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod.
If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this:
1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.
3. Open iTunes and synchronize
