Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a belkin adapter which connects my 2 pcs together sharing a mouse, keyboard and monitor. I recently bought an acer slimline 22 inches monitor to replace my old bulky monitor. However when I connect in the same way as before to my new monitor, the monitor does not work i.e. the screen is blank and no power light comes on - so there appears to be a problem; can you help?. Incidentally I made sure there is nothing wrong with the monitor - I tried to connect it to my laptop only (not 2 pcs together) and it seems to work. Your comments would be much appreciated - thanks. Fatima

I have been away for a few days. However, I am going to try again today - maybe there is a loose connection. I will let you know how I got on.

Incidentally, if indeed there is a loose connection does it mean I have to buy a new belkin adapter (which comes attached with power cross loop cable; one part needs to be plugged into the pc and the other into the monitor) or can the loose connection be fixed some other way?

    Thanks,

    Fatima

There is no loose connection as the old monitor is powered up using the belkin router to connect 2 pcs together. This is not the case when the acer TFT monitor is replaced and connected the same way. The resolutions meet the specification of the acer monitor.

The problem still remains but thanks for trying.

Components not recognised automatically with Belkin Switch2

This is not quite a solution, but a workaround. Take a USB cable extender and intercept the 5V supply wire in it (normally red) with a push to break switch. When you have powered up the PC, push the switch and the KVM will then work (same as your unplugging but much easier to do ). Switch bought on Ebay for 0.99GBP. Belkin tried to insist that I had my laptop plugged in and working if I wanted to use my desktop.

Belkin wireless keyboard receiver won't work with my laptop

Yes and no...
"Wireless enabled" means you do not need a separate adapter to connect to a wireless NETWORK or computer, not a peripheral device.

I assume the two connectors are PS/2- plugs - one pink, the other one green. What you need is a PS/2- -to-USB adapter that should have come with your keyboard. PS/2-in, USB-out, either with or without the cables (see picture)

It is compatible with a wireless mouse, as long as it is a PS2 mouse.  if it is USB you could try using a converter, but it may not work.

Using KVM-121 with 2 monitors

the way the kvm switches works is you have your mouse/keyboard and monitor plugged into the switch then you have the cables connecting to where you would have your mouse/keyboard on your pc, youll be using the same keyboard/mouse and monitor to run 2 pc's. there will be rather a switch to move between the pc's or like the 1 i use i have tp press ctrl the number 2 twice.

Belkin 2-port kvm switch

If you have the PS2 mouse and keyboard (round plug-in) instead of USB this is an easy install. however if you have USB you will need adapters to make this work, but I do not recommend it since more problems could occur. If you have the PS2 ends first shutdown both computers. remove your monitor, mouse, and keyboard from your computer and attach them to the single end of the switch. Mouse goes to Green, Keyboard to Purple. Take the other ends and connect the first group to your first computer mouse, keyboard, and monitor (same colors as above) and repeat for 2nd group of wires on 2nd computer. turn the computers on. you should get display, keyboard, and mouse for 1st computer. after both boot hit scroll lock 2 times within 2 seconds and then arrow up or down key to change between computers.

Wireless network between vista & xp

Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the drive or folder you want to share. Right-click the drive, and then click Sharing and Security. To open Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer. To change the name of your folder on the network, type a new name for your folder in the Share name text box. This will not change the name of the folder on your computer. To allow other users to change the files in your shared folder, select the Allow other users to change my files check box.
