I have an MFC-8460N also and same thing just happened to me. Toner End came on, I took out old toner, put in a new toner, close everything up, but Toner Life End stays on, even after off/on switching, checking for the left hand side little bracket/actuator that can swing up and down. Don't know what else to do.

I just solved my own problem. Try it for yours. I had been using several compatible toners for the MFC-8460N with no problems until today, as I posted earlier. On a hunch, I went to the local office supply store and purchased one original Brothers TN550 toner and put it into the printer and closed the cover. Everything clicked. Toner End Life message gone. I then took that Brother toner out and put the compatible one back in and still everything was fine. Am keeping the original Brother toner as a "kickstarter" if it happens again.

One thing that can happen is that if you are getting the cartridge refilled, it may be that they did not reset the old cartridge. Have the company that filled it reset it and you should not get that message again.

I just installed a new drum and toner cartrideg last week and the error message says drum is near end. Should the toner cartride be replaced?

Hi there,

After replacing the drum and toner you may need to reset the drum life of the machine. This is how to reset the drum life:
Open the front cover where the drum and toner are located. Press the clear/back key. Lcd should show Replace Drum? Then press 1 for yes. Lcd should show accepted. Close the front cover the press stop/exit. Lcd now should show the date and time.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks

Does the 'Drum Near End' message for MFC 8460N mean to indicate the toner cartridge needs replaced?

Same with our Brother 8640N, drum near end means toner is nearly to end but sometimes even you replace bew cartridge is appears this message. TONER LIFE END message need to replace cartridge.

Brother MFC-9440CN Laser Printer is saying toner life end and I just put a new cartridge in.

If you want to reset your Brother MFC 9440N machine so you no longer have the error message: Toner End of Life, do the following:

1. Open the front cover of the 7820N, that is, the cover that allows you to pull out the toner and drum, but don't pull out the drum/toner.
2. Push the button: Options (located on the left of the control pad).
3. Type: *00 on the keypad.

The Brother MFC 9440N should be reset and the Toner End of Life message should disappear. Warning, this may void your warranty and ultimately damage your machine if you are reusing or refilling your cartridges, but you should already know that. Hope this helps.

MFC 9450 - CDN shows toner end of life message. The cartridges had been refilled from bottles. This was solved by resetting the flag gear so the printer thought it had a new cartridge. See this link. As...

Hello,

You can reset the toner bias by opening the front cover of the printer so that you can see the toner cartridges and then press "clear/back".

This will access the toner reset menu and you can select which cartridge you are reseting.

Thanks,

Pat

I replaced the toner for MFC 7840W and I am still gettin the toner life end message, I can not print. Please help

As noted from a previous poster, this one works!

I have a brother mfc 7840w

I first used the electrical tape trick and that worked for a while. Then got the toner low message again. I then tried the *00 trick, which works as follows:

1. lift lid and open front cover
2. press clear/back. "Replace Drum?" will appear on the screen.
3. Press "*00" it will then read accepted and the toner low error (End of Toner Life) should go away.
4. close it all up and your done.

Thanks for all your help guys.

''TONER LIFE END'' MESSAGE

Toner probably isn't empty, but the machine shuts down at a specifc count on the cartridge regardless of actual consumption...don't you love it?
Your replacement cartridge was probably a remanufactured one and didn't have the toner reset lever properly set.
