Most refrigerator-freezers have a control that adjusts the operation of the cooling system of the freezer only. In such appliances, any control for the refrigerator is simply a mechanical system of opening or closing vents between the refrigerator and freezer to let in more or less cold air.
Remove the temperature control dial or housing. Pull the dial straight away from the wall. Remove the temperature control. If there is a housing, it either snaps into place or is held in place with screws. Remove the screws, or gently depress the retaining clips with a small screwdriver. Allow the housing to hang by its wiring. The control will be connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the control before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the switch with slip on connectors. Firmly pull the connector (do not pull on the wire) off of the control's terminal. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.
Test the control for continuity using a multitester. Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. Turn the control to warmest setting or off. The multitester should display a reading of infinity. If the control does not have an off position, the reading should be near the infinity end of the scale. Now change the control to the coldest setting and retest. The display should read zero ohms. If the control does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced

I supose the fridge is cold enought so it stops. And when it warms up a little it should automatically start working again.

The dial changes the target temperature inside the fridge.
So when you lower the number it keeps the fridge a little less cold.

I would assume that a thermistor or thermistat is faulty and so the fridge is not detecting it's temperature properly. Try removing the cover around the dial and remove any ice covering the components. Otherwise, empty and unplug the fridge and let the ice melt and the components dry then see if the problem is resolved. Good Luck!

Subzero 590: freezer works, refrigerator not cooling

This is a Sub Zero and many technicians do not realize that these units most all run on 2 separate systems. 2 cold controls 2 compressors 2 evaporators. They share a condenser and condenser fan motor. What you are describing is most likely a bad cold control. It is pretty common for these to get some age and go bad. If you are very savvy with repairs yourself then if you access the compressor area and feel that the compressor on the right is cool and the compressor on the left is warm then you know that the ref. compressor has not been running. UNPLUG THE UNIT OR CUT THE BREAKER OFF. Remove the shelving from the fresh food section and the cover to the lights and the panel below the lights and lean the back panel forward to access the cold control. You will see 3 wires to the cold control. The green wire is the ground wire of corse. Unplug the other 2 wires remembering their location on the control unit. Take a jumper wire and jump these 2 wires. If when you power the unit up the right side compressor comes on then you know that your fresh food cold control is bad. Replace fresh food cold control.

Sub zero refrig - ice forming inside

The solution posted previously is TOTALLY WRONG. A Sub Zero ref doesn't have a heating element in the fresh food section. Only in the Frozen food section. It has 2 totally separate systems for each section. 2 Compressors and 2 evaporators. They share a condenser. If you are having ice build up in the refrigerator then the problem you are having is a refrigerant leak in the fresh food evaporator. You need to have a certified tech come out and replace the evaporator in your refrigerator section of your Sub Zero. Not sure what you are asking about the thermostat.
