Is it normal for there to be a high-pitched whining sound when heater is activated. Also, it seems I have to set it at around 80-85 to keep the heat on for any significant period. Lower settings it just comes on and then goes off. Thanks for your help.

I assume that you are referring to a ducted central split system. If so, if the whining sound is coming from the return air grille that is an indication that the ducting may be undersized, or you have a restriction to flow back to the furnace or air handler, that could also contribute to the temperature setting not amtching the indoor temperature and allowing for improper run times and requiring a higher setting on the stat to allow for a long enough runt ime to stisfy the temperature setting. Check your return ducting to verify it is not collapesed or if it is insulated internally that the insulation has not come loose and is blocking the airflow. Hope this helps!

1985 toyota mr2 engine noise

It still could be the throw-out bearing. When going bad, they have a high pitched whine or whistling, and if bad enough, could imitate a vibrating sensation. IDK, I would have a mechanic there listen to it.

High pitch whining sound from engine

Check the power steering fluid if its low it could cause this. Also could be alternator, water pump, ac compressor, or idler pulley. My bet would be on the idler pulley, its the one that keeps the belt tension constant. Remove the belt and check this pulley for slack also spin it by hand.
Good luck, dont forget to rate.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

Ruud Heat Pump blows room temp on Heat and AC setting

A "Heat-Pump" is also known as a reverse cycle air conditioner, this means on heat the outdoor unit acts like the indoor section and vice versa. So in all probability you need to have it leak checked and recharged.
