Question about Samsung TS-H492 (TSH492AWRBH) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

Samsung TS-H492 CD-RW Combo

here was no reponse on the drive either DVD video or CD even though thre was power and that the led light flickered when the disc lid is closed. Behind the DVD drive, the poer cable was checked connected. The other audio cable was pluged but the other end was left unconnected. I was told by the computer people that this audio cable is not neccessary to be connected to the Cd -in in the main board. In any case, the drive is not responding to the DVD or CD.

I went to the device manager and could find the driver of this CD-RW Combo drive. I then loaded in the disc driver from this CD-RW Drive into the drive slot to load the driver. But there was no response from the CD-RW combo set on the driver disc inserted in it.

Well, the CD ROM was installed with the computer that was purchased in Dec 2004. The setting of the CD ROM drive was set by the installer at the time of purchase of it. So, I assumed the setting on the back of CD RM drive was correctly set for it to work - with one hard disk in the computer. If the settign is wrong, I would assume the CD ROM drive will not work since then. As I seldom used the drive to play music or video. But when I played it, I sometimes impatiently like to fast forward to another track or skip jumps to other track. I am not sure if this had caused the CD ROM opitcal reader to fail. If not, what is the cause of it? Cheers.

I have downloaded Belarc. But it does not help much wiith solving it. I can reload the burning software if only that the CD -Rom drive will respond to turn it. At the present the CD-Rom s not turning after the drive lid is closed and the led light of the drive blinked to a stop. It seemed the drive is not working. I have changed the IDE cable on the back of the CD-Rom drive, but the problem is still the same - CD-Rom drive is not turning after software is loaded.

At your suggestion, I tried the system restore date on it - i.e.I moved back the system to theprevious restored date in which the CD-Rom was working. However, there was no response from it - i.e. there was no turning of the CD-Rom drive even this previous restored date eventhoguh it was turning or working at that date. What should I do now? Cheers.

Are you using a single IDE cable with your H/Disk? if yes! check, the jumper connections of your CD-ROM,maybe the are both in the master position ,change the jumper of your CD_ROM to slave position.or use another cable for your CD-ROM.if doe'snt work go to BIOS SETUP,set the settings to default SETUP.then restart your PC.

There may be an easier solution. If you remember a time when it worked, do a system restore to that date. If that doesn't work, then try the following. Oddly enough, you don't need drivers for the CD/DVD drives--they aren't even recognized unless you have a non-microsoft burning program. Find out what burning software you have-- I recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, a free program which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what you have, you have to seek a download or upgrade at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may be a special program not related to the burning software from the software manufacturer. That may do the trick--sounds to me as if your burning software is corrupted.

This thing can see cd's, but can't see a dvd,ut will record cd but not dvd

I don't know what OS you are using, but NORMALLY you can "Burn" a CD "Natively" IE: Without using any other software. However you CANNOT for a DVD. You need to get a DVD "Burner". Unless of course you are using Vista or Win 7. Then, you can burn both "natively".

I have a question, I install a Hard Disk as a slave with the CD ROOM data buss, but when I turn on the pc the cd room wont be recognized, What would you recommended

Do you have both a primary & secondary IDE controller? Make each Master on its own controller. Or make the hard drive master with the DVD as the slave on the same controller.
