Question about Samsung TS-H492 (TSH492AWRBH) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner
here was no reponse on the drive either DVD video or CD even though thre was power and that the led light flickered when the disc lid is closed. Behind the DVD drive, the poer cable was checked connected. The other audio cable was pluged but the other end was left unconnected. I was told by the computer people that this audio cable is not neccessary to be connected to the Cd -in in the main board. In any case, the drive is not responding to the DVD or CD.
I went to the device manager and could find the driver of this CD-RW Combo drive. I then loaded in the disc driver from this CD-RW Drive into the drive slot to load the driver. But there was no response from the CD-RW combo set on the driver disc inserted in it.
Are you using a single IDE cable with your H/Disk? if yes! check, the jumper connections of your CD-ROM,maybe the are both in the master position ,change the jumper of your CD_ROM to slave position.or use another cable for your CD-ROM.if doe'snt work go to BIOS SETUP,set the settings to default SETUP.then restart your PC.

There may be an easier solution. If you remember a time when it worked, do a system restore to that date. If that doesn't work, then try the following. Oddly enough, you don't need drivers for the CD/DVD drives--they aren't even recognized unless you have a non-microsoft burning program. Find out what burning software you have-- I recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, a free program which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what you have,you have to seek a download or upgrade at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may be a special program not related to the burning software from the software manufacturer. That may do the trick--sounds to me as if your burning software is corrupted.
