Is the router plugged into your mac? it has to be to get into that address, its a private address. You want to hook up all the cables then tell the mac to acquire a new IP or reboot it to get the new ip, then you should be able to enter that IP address and be brought into the linksys setup page.

Both My Inspiron and linksys will not connect to my ISP. They say both are receiving an invalid IP address! I have used all trouble shooting techniques including trying to release and reset! Even went as...

Step 1: Plug the computer (ethernet wired) directly into the modem. Power cycle the modem and when all the light come on you should have internet. If not call your ISP to trouble shoot.

At this point we should be able to determine if it is a PPPoe connection (needs username and password to connect) or if it logs in automaticly.

Step 2: Plug the router back into the modem and the computer plugged wired (ethernet) to the router. Remove power from both the modem and the router. Plug the modem back in first, once all the lights are on plug in the router. Try to connect.

Step 3: Log in to the router via its IP address (normally 192.168.1.1), if no one has reset the user name password it should admin for both. If it has been reset, you will need to know what the user name and password are to continue.

Step 4: Under setup if in step 1 you found you needed PPPoe, then you need to set that under the setup tab. Make sure you use the user name and password provided to you by your ISP. If you dont need PPPoe then make sure this is set to obtain IP automaticly.

Step 5: save settings. Once the router restarts, try to connect again.

If these step do not work, let me know:

1. who is your ISP?
2. What modem do they use?
3. What is your IP address when plugged directly into the modem?
4. What is your IP address when plugged into the router?

I will be around for about 1 more hour, its 2PM central time now.

I cannot hookup my osx mac computer to the wireless at&t internet service i have set up in my home. The other 3 computers in our home do work (including another mac). We have called at&t tech...

What we really need is more information on the router. Do you know how the other computers connect to the wireless? Do you know if you had to have a password in order to connect? If you never did anything to the Linksys router to set it up, you can login to the router by opening Internet Explorer and browsing to 192.168.1.1. It will ask you for a login name and password. By default the name is blank and the password is "admin". If you look at the wireless settings you should be able to see the wireless settings, like the wireless name (again, by default the name is Linksys), what kind (if any) of encryption is used, etc.

Linksys router will not work with my hp deskto

you will need to "set up" the router.
http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support
This is the support page for linksys, if you enter your model in the drop down box, you may see a "Easy Setup' or "assistant" software to help set it up, otherwise you can contact your ISP and they will walk you through entering the right settings.
You will usually have to enter 192.168.1.0, or something close in the address bar when you hook your router up and get pagecannot be displayed, type in that number (or the correct ip of the router) and it will get you to the router setup page.

Well i had just bought a lynksys router from my friend with no software cd so right now i am trying to download the software online so when i switch my cox modem with the linksys modem i want the software...

You should be able to get any software that you need from LinkSys.com but I have a couple of quick questions first:

1. Is the LinkSys unit you just purchased a router or modem?

If the unit is a router, you are still going to need a Cox compatible modem. If the unit is a modem, you will still need a router to complete the network setup unless LinkSys makes a combination cable router/modem, and I haven't been able to research one.

2. If it is a modem, is it a cable modem and, if it is, is it Cox compatible?

According to the Cox Web Site, the only models of LinkSys modems that are currently compatible with the Cox High Speed Cable Internet Service are:

BEFCMU10 v3
BEFCMU10 v4
WCG200
WCG200 v2
CM100

In this particular case, you may need to contact LinkSys and/or your Internet Service Provider. In most cases, they will not only tell you exactly what type of equipment you need, they will also talk you through setting up the network once you have the equipment - usually at no charge.

Thanks for posting. First reset the modem by pressing the reset button, then connect to the admin page of the router, normally the gateway IP (http://192.168.1.1). The you will find the WAN (isp) settings. Enter your login info for your isp and clone your mac address, normally under advanced. __________________

I dont know haow to connect Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS - wireless router

  1. Connect your modem to the Internet port of the router. Your computer needs to be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports at the back of the router.
  2. Access the router's setup page by launching Internet explorer and typing 192.168.1.1.
  3. It will ask for a username and password. Leave the username blank and password is admin.
  4. Once your in the setup page, set "Internet connection type" with what your ISP requires you to have.
  5. If you have cable ISP, usually it is "Automatic Configuration-DHCP."
  6. But if you have DSL ISP, then it will be PPPoE. You need to know your username and password from your ISP.
  7. Better yet, verify your Internet connection type from your Internet service provider.
Hope this helps!

I lost the instructions on how to install a Linksys wireless router. I would like to down load these instructions.

cable setup

This guide is recommended for Cable Internet Service in the USA like Charter, Cox, Comcast, Cable Vision, etc.
  1. First you need to connect the device together. You need to connect your cable modem to the internet port on the back of the router, and the computer should go to one of the 4-port on the router labeled Ethernet (1, 2, 3, 4).
  2. Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize before powering on the Linksys router. Lights that you should have on the router are Power (solid green), Wireless/WLAN (Green sometimes flashing), One of the no. lights where the computer is plugged in (flashing), And the internet light (flashing).
After doing this step there are times that this will already get you online. If the internet will not work, you continue following the steps 3.

3. If the internet is still not working; we will need to adjust a setting on the router setup page. To access the setup page of the router you need to open your internet explorer or Firefox on the computer that is hardwired directly to the router. In the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) type http://192.168.1.1/ and hit enter or click Go. It will ask you for a username and password. Just type "admin" for the password field and there is no username. If you have ran the setup CD prior to this, then use the password that you have set when were running the setup CD.
4. Once you are in the setup page of your router make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, then click the save the settings button at the bottom of the page. After saving the settings, click the sub tab at the very top of the page that says MAC Address Clone. Set it to enable and click the button that will say Clone or Clone your PC's MAC and save the settings again.

5. After doing step 4, do a power cycle. Power cycle is done by turning of the router, modem and computer. Leave them off for a minute, tuned them back on in this order. Modem first wait for the lights to stabilize, then the router wait until the power light become solid. Then turn on the computer. This will get you online through the router.

How do i connect a linksys wag200 to cable

Most cable Internet Service Providers (ISP) use a Media Access Control (MAC) Authentication to establish Internet connections for end-users. A MAC address is assigned a unique 48-bit (6-byte) integer that is attached to an Ethernet NIC for each computer. To set-up your Linksys gateway to a Cable ISP, you have to do MAC Cloning. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a gateway to copy the MAC Address of the PC that’s registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys gateway with Cable connection you need to perform five steps:
  1. Verifying Internet Connection
  2. Connecting Devices Together
  3. Checking the Gateway’s LEDs
  4. Configuring a Linksys Gateway for a Cable Connection
  5. Power Cycling
More detailed information can be found from the Linksys website
