Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

Have 2 RCA Remote controllers, neither of which (for reasons unknown) fail to operate my Toshiba DVD Recorder/player Model D-RW-2-SU. No problem with TV or Sat Rcvr. Please advise as I have spent HOURS trying all searches.

My complaint applies to RCA Universal Remote 4 Devices RCR4258 as related to my Toshiba DVD Recorder/Player. None of the methods of coding said remote (methods fully complied with) fail to obtain a response. This is an enigma and I need help for which I am being charged!

Hi
Toshiba DVD Recorder/player Model D-RW-2-SU.

1) turn on the dvd player
2) press and hold the code search button, when the indicator light is lit, release the code search button
3) press and release the component button you wish to use (dvd), the indicator light should blink once and remain lit
4) aim the remote at the dvd player and push the on/off/power button, there is a 3 second pause between codes, so keep the remote aimed at the dvd player
5) as soon as the dvd player turns off via remote, press and release the enter button

now to record the code for future reference..
1) press and hold the code search button, when the indicator light is lit, release the code search button
2) press and release the component button you wish to use (dvd), the indicator light should blink once and remain lit
3) press and release the code search button, the indicator light should turn off
4) starting with 0, press and release each button in numerical order (0-9) until the light blinks, write down the number that caused the light to blink

repeat step 4 two more times until you have the 3 digit code. in the future you can use the direct programming mode to reprogram the remote if need be.

Hey oldrebnavy,
]
could you please supply the model number of the RCA controllers? I understand they function with other units, so they are supposedly the universal sort.
We can match them up for frequency and coding(which is what makes them work across the board) with the Toshiba units specifications.

thanks for sending that along.

    Old reb..

please click on this link, and about half way down the page, on the right hand side, are the Toshiba codes for your remote. Are you familiar with how to program those codes?

    here's the link

this is as much information as anyone could possibly want on this subject, no?

    actually, oldnavydude,

those are the precise instructions from the remote manuals. The links I sent you provide a more 'manual' approach than the autodetect that they are suggesting. Unless, of course, you are lumping me in with your comments, are you?

I own a Toshiba SD-3980SU2 DVD Video Player. I keep getting an Incorrect Disc comment, and bad comment. I an using DVD-RW discs. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the player.

You are probably using incorrect disc formats in this DVD player; try DVD+RW if you must use re-writables, or DVD-R (finalised in a recorder or burned on a PC). I doubt this model supports DVD-RW, so the problem wouldn't be with the player; it would be the formats of the discs you use.

Don't use DVD-RW discs in this player if it does not support that format.

Front Display is saying DR-2 and will not let me use remote to control anything...only thing I can do is shut power off with front panel..I have unplug from outlet and let set for 30mins and plugged back...

I received an attachement from the Toshiba Repair folks several months ago, when we had the same problem. To resolve it, do the following:

While pressing the Easy Navi button on the remote, press 2. The remote control mode will be set to DR 2, which is what the recorder is telling you it is set to.

We encountered this problem for the first time, for no apparent reason. It happened again today, after the operator dropped the remote. This fix worked both times.

    Recording from vhs to dvd

As long as you've got the DVD recorder set to the correct "channel" I can't see why it won't work. Why don't you just try it out on a DVD-RW first ? Use RCA cables from the VCR "OUT",  to the DVD recorders "IN" sockets and you'll be okay. If for some unknown reason it doesn't copy you haven't used a good disc. Probably won't copy anything with Macrovision(or other copy protection) though.

    Dvd player/recorder

Like many RCA products that use a DVD Burner, these burners are not high end ones and go out without warning and the first indication is the dreaded HELLO issue. I have tried contacting RCA and the makers of the DVD-RW drives but still I am in the dark as to any possible firmware/software updates for these devices. No fix to this date, only replacing the DVD-RW will resolve this.

The manual says to press the display button (just below the eject button) on the remote. This worked for me.
