Proscan ps52810 52 inch projection - composite/HD problem
Hi, I have a background in Electronics Engineering, but ** schematics or service manual so I defer to the experts! My TV has been working well for 7 years. It has had quite a bit of use. The other day, I started hearing a buzzing sound in the speakers (maybe somewhere between 60 - 120 hz). After this I **ticed a faint red line sweeping up the screen. Now the top of the picture distorts when white/light colors appear and occasionally picture goes black (you can hear a relay clicking - maybe it lost sync?). I am running HD through the 3 composite video inputs (Y, Pb ...).
The strange thing is that it works fine using the coax input (set to channel 3). Of course I can't run HD that way. Is there a composite input board that can be replaced? Maybe there is a local oscillator that has degraded?
Any help from you Gurus would be grealty appreciated! I am **t in the position to buy a new tv and I will miss my HD!!!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

This might be a problem with the Audio output final stage where it goes from the Stereo decoder to the Audio amplifiers. This problem might not be something that you can fix if you do not have an electronics background. If you do not have a background in electronics I would suggest that you take this to a qualified electronics service technician. If you do have a background in electronics I would suggest that you get a schematic and begin testing around the stereo decoder and audio amplifiers.
The ProScan will accept input on input 90/91/92 using the connectors on the backside. You can use S-video[the little round black connector] or the composite video [yellow connector] for the video in and use the red / white pair for audio in. 90 selects S-video and audio 1 in 91 selects composite and audio 1 in 92 selects composite in 2 and audio 2 in Connect these cords to the S-video or composite yellow output, and the Red-right White- left audio outputs on the DVD. If you don't want to do this, get a RF modulator ~$15, and connect the yellow/red/white from the DVD output to the inputs on the modulator, and then connect the RF [cable] output of the modulator to the antenna input on the ProScan, and tune channel 3 or 4. tom
You can tune to 90 for input 1 S-video, 91 for input 1 composite and 92 for input 2 composite only. Most RCA and GE brand replacement remotes will work using code 000, or 001. I use code 237 for my 5 in 1 remote and can get PIP and the setup displays to work. tom
set up channel 90 91 and 92. 90 is for S-video input, paired audio with composite video on 91. 92 is for input 2, composite and R/L audio. You need to enable them in the setup menu by manually tuning to 90/91/91 and then adding them. tom
Another point; HD Ready does not mean that it is HD compatible without the addition of an optional part. The title only implies that it can be adapted to HD reception. If you did not purchase it with the set, check your user guide to see what you need to make it whole. You may have to seek this add-on on eBay since it is not guaranteed that Sony will still offer it.
You might want to check this:
“Technical Details·53-inch HD-ready rear-projection TV (doesn't include HD receiver); 48 x 57.5 x 25 inches (W x H x D)”
If all you have is a straight horizontal line across the middle of the screen, you have a vertical deflection problem. This may be caused by the opening of the vertical coupling capacitor, an open winding in the yoke transformer, the vertical drive transistor might be malfunctioning, or the vertical output IC chip might be defective. You will have to check all of these, make sure that you have a schematic, a multimeter, and an oscilloscope. Here is why:
1) schematic diagram to know where parts are and the voltages and signals present at test points.
2) multimeter to measure DC voltages on the pins of components
3) oscilloscope to measure signals at test points shown on the schematic.
If you do not have a background in electronics please take your set to a repair shop, however if you have a background in electronics your troubleshooting will be around the vertical section if the tv.
