I have recently upgraded my navigation to use a Garmin GPS17 via a Garmin 3205 Chartplotter for my position data. I am trying to set up my old Raynav 300 as a Repeater. The GPS signal from the Garmin kit is NMEA. I have tried connecting the Garmin NMEA signal directly to the NMEA input port on the Raynav 300 but without success. Does naybody know why this should be? Also is there a way to monitor the NMEA from within the Raynav 300?
I have checked all my connections. The Garmin signal is OK when leaving the Garmin. I have also used the Raynav 300 NMEA port to upload waypoints. My assumption is that the problem is software/firmware.
P.S I gave also tried to feed the GArmin NMEA signalt onto Seatalk via a Raymarine NMEA Seatalk Interface but this also fails.

I connected my Garmin gpsmap76 to a Raymarine autopilot using the NEMA output from the GPS. The autopilot was also on the seatalk bus. It work fine. The GPS provided navigational guidance to the autopilot

yes, you need the NMEA out cord set for the E 80 and hook the output of the E series to the input on the power data cord on the Garmin - out to in

I would send your seatalk (Yellow and black) from your c80 to a junction box, send your rs125 to the junction box and another pig tail seatalk lead to the J-box coming from the autopilot. Now...on the raystar 125 connect the green wire to red, and the brown to black. Now connect the reds together, the shields and blacks together and finally the yellow's. The autohelm should power up the seatalk bus enough for your gps to work. the c80 offers power from seatlk but don't connect it's red wire.

Many times the shield is the silver wire we call it that since it has no other coating except its occasionally heat shrinked on the end.

you will need to hook up direct. Seatalk wont handle a waypoint download, but the chartplotter will accept the data directly into the NMEA in port. All other data, like wind depth and latlon are handled by seatalk

I checked my wiring again today and found that my inputs were connected to my outputs! Problem now solved.
