Question about AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Processor - Socket 939 (AMDX23800)

Processor upgrade problem

I have just bought a AMD 3800 x2 processor to upgrade my computer. I am currently running a 3200 in a ASUS A8N-SLI DeLuxe motherboard. On replacing the processor, the computer will **t even perform the POST routine. I have flashed in the latest BIOS and reset the CMOS, but ** change. It still works perfectly with the old processor back in, so all the peripherals would seem fine. Any ideas?

If you are completely sure the FSB is right, I mean that the motherboard supports the CPU, and that there is no jumpers out of place... just reset the BIOS (take the motherboard lithium battery off and let the PC completely without power and any other cable connected) take the RAM out and all devices too. Arround 10 minutes later put just the CPU and the lithium battery in their places and boot up the system.

Last try is to disassemble all and just try with motherboard on a table with only RAM and Video. If you do this BE CAREFUL not to place the motherboard over any metallic thing, just a piece of wood is better than anything.

If this does not work, take the CPU to Guarantee...

I just bought your AMD Athlon ll #x2 255 to replace replace my old one. I see in the instructions that I have a socket 754 and the new one is different. I/m trying to upgrade my computer. i also got y

Hello, I am the technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Roger Gross.

Yes your new AMD Athlon 2 X2 255 processor is made to fit both AM2+ or AM3 sockets.

Since your current socket is 754, you will need a new mainboard and DDR3 RAM to go with your new processor.

ASUS make very good mainboards. The ASUS M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3 mainboard is a good companion for your new processor. Install DDR3 1333MHz CL9 RAM from either Kingston or Corsair. 2X2GB modules should do nicely.

Feel free to contact me should you require additional assistance.

Take care!

Your socket is AM2. You can put any AMD processor that has AM2. If the processor is AM3 just upgrade the bios of your motherboard and it should work. If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Cheers

Trying to upgrade a Compaq SR1020NX computer. The HP website still has old info, likely based on the original bios. The motherboard is an Asus A8M2N-LA. What CPU upgrades will run on that board? Is there...

Hello again, Upgrading CPU's

Your board supports socket AM2 CPUs the fastest of which is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ dual-core processor at 3.1 GHz.

Your motherboard does not accept socket AM3 CPUs.

Driver

Thats a prosessor, theres just one driver for that, and still its not a must have.

now if its a motherboard that you need drivers for, now just the processor, go over here and select the right motherboard, you will get the drivers you need.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

and you can get a prosessor driver from here for AMD
http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/drivers.aspx

Let me know how that goes.
Thanks,
Ekse

E2180 Vs Athlon 64 X2 5000+

depends on what you plan to do with the cpu amd are good but a 3200 may only run @ 1.8 to 3.2 ghz depending while a intel 3200 will run 3.2 ghz.
I believe intel are more stable & run cooler than AMD but AMD benchmarks on Games better but run hotter (so get a good cooling fan & heatsink both pentium / celeron d & intel dou / dual core / core 2 dou and amd x2 have 2 cores (but watch your front side bus and cache the higher the better but the more $ also) then You need a good stable mobo that supports the chip you get (I preffer asus & msi for Gamers and biostar / msi for home users)
