If # 3 cylinder has spark at the plug it must fire if the following conditions apply. Injector is supplying fuel to the cylinder. and cylinder compression tests OK . So check above ,one or both must be at fault.
you don`t say how you verified that the plug and wire was good. I think these use coil on plug, if so check powers and grounds for that coil as one may have a problem.other things that could cause this is a bad fuel injector, poor compression due to either rings, valve, worn cam, damaged push rod,
Number 3 is the 3rd plug back on the passenger side. Coils are notorious for going bad, I would recommend replacing the spark plugs, while you are there. Use Auto Lite, or Motorcraft Platinum Spark plugs only.
I was wrong about the distributor being round (I was thinking about my other car). I found variations about the firing order but after troubbleshooting, varified the plug wiring order from the front of the car is 1 - 4 - 5 - 2 - 3 - 6 not 1 - 4 - 5 - 2 - 6 - 3 found on several web sites. From the front of the car looking at the engine, the back three cylinders by the firewall going from left to right are 1, 3, 5. The front three are 2, 4 & 6.
the firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2 pattern from the front of engine on drivers side #1cyl.#3cyl#5cyl than on pass. side front cyl. is #2 cyl#4 #6 dist pattern drivers side is 1-3-5 than on passenger side it is 2-4-6 from the front to the back on both sides
I Hope this Does the trick for ya. Im Sure its TRUE & CORRECT

Firing Order: 1 - 2 - 3 Base Ignition Timing Note: With the T terminal Shorted.5 +/- 2 deg BTDC Ignition timing should be checked and adjusted, if necessary whenever spark plugs are replaced or any distributormaintenance is done. Ignition timing should be 3-7°BTDC at 750-850 RPM with the engine check connector terminal 11 (brown) shorted, Fig. 1. The engine check connector is located near the top of the transaxle.
