2E 38N two year old pump runs for twenty minutes or so now and shuts off or shorts out. I reset GFI and can get another twenty minutes shortly thereafter. Noticed the green rubber/plastic housing has worn through on the bottom. Do I need to replace pump?

Could be fuel pump is going out. Its getting hot not working properly and when it cools down it works right again for a short period. Ive seen this happen several times.
One thing you might check is to make sure there is not cold air blowing across the thermostat from one of the vents. I've seen this many times make the thermostat short cycle.
Some less expensive thermostats may be programmed to short cycle. If you have instructions available for the thermostat, try to find information or the "heat anticipator". It may have an adjustable setting.
I would, if its kicking out the gfi that means the integrity of the electrical components of the pump are compromised.Either a cord leak or seal leak, buy a new one, cheaper than fixing it
If the noise is coming from the back of the fridge, it could be the compressor is dying. Its cycling and over heating shutting off then trying to restart a short time after once the thermal overlaod resets. You hould call a service tech sooner than later.
Motor windings are overheating and expanding inside the potting seal causing an intermittant short to ground. Need to replace the pump.<!-- from fixya rte -->
hello, if you plug the compressor into a none gfi outlet does the compressor still cut off ? it could be one a short in your compressor causing the gfi to trip our your gfi has a ground try the compressor in a diffrent outlet, when you use any other electronic equipment on the gfi does it still trip ? if you use the compressor in a diffrent outlet that's none gfi this should sholve your problem most likely a bad gfi outlet or the compressor is drawing to much amp's.
