What make and Model? You basically set it over framed 14"x14" hole, with clean surface, align it properly so gasket is aligned all around hole, install ceiling assy, inside with 4 bolts that extend to unit on roof, and draw it down evenly until gasket is compressed about 1/2 it's original thickness, hook up your wiring, etc. Are you starting from scratch, or replacing another unit?

I put a new roof on my 93 Coachman motorhome. When I pulled the A/C unit off of the roof there was a seal around the opening and 4 additional 2" X 2" styrofoam blocks near the outer edge of the unit near the corners, it was hard to tell. Do I need to use there blocks when I re-install the unit or just use a new seal. I can't find any reference on the web about these blocks so I am tempted to install the unit without them. Any ideas?

Normally you have a 14" square opening for AC to sit on. (same size as any roof vent opening as well.) As long as that 14" hole is framed solid so as to allow the AC unit to draw down evenly, there shouldn't be a need for anything else. Gasket of AC over the hole evenly and ceiling assembly inside, then tighten down until gasket is approximately 50% of original thickness. You did buy a new gasket right? Old one peels off, but may take a little extra scraping if it's been on there since original. Clean surface of AC good and stick new one on in same place. The only reason I've seen extra supports is if unit sits too high due to shims added between roof and frame. Sometimes the roof has started to sag in that area, so they shim between frame and roof material to raise it slightly so water doesn't sit at gasket area when wet. Otherwise, tighten down as instructed at those 4 bolts and so gasket is compressed evenly all around and your good to go.

I was given a toyota new Horizon a 1984, the whole top was roted out and im rebulding it but need a wireing diagram for the roof of my RV are a picture of one before the plywood is installed.

Being that old, it probably does not exist. The best you can do is get a circuit diagram, then plan you own locations and power wiring. Usually on the roof you will find a AC unit which requires 110volts ac, sometimes a 12 volt DC fan or two for kitchen or generally air cooling to exhaust hot air or circulate air. You may have a TV antenna on the roof needing RG 59 coax going to it.

I have a travel trailer with a coleman 7300 roof top ac unit. the unit will blow cold air but water leaks thru the plenum. i was told by the previous owner that it needs a new seal. i would like to fix it...

If it's leaking inside where filter cover is, then real good chance the drains being plugged is the only problem. If water (condensation) not running off roof when operating in cool mode, then I'd bet drains, which are located under unit on roof, and you should see them sticking down like buttons. They have a hole in side that needs cleaning with a pipe cleaner or similar to open them up. If need be, shut off power to unit and remove top cover on roof unit and look for the drain holes in base, and clean them out. If water comes in while raining, but AC not running, then it's gasket. That is remedied by removing ceiling assembly (just screws) and 4 bolts that pull/hold the upper and lower assemblies together, unplug wiring to upper unit, and simply lift it off, change gasket and re-install. Tighten those 4 bolts equally when gasket is aligned properly over hole, only until gasket is approx 1/2, original thickness. Plug harness back in and your done. (about an hours work.) Only other thing that may be wrong is styrofoam drip tray for cooling unit, under cover on roof may have a crack , allowing condensation to leak in. If that 's the case, you can try to find a sealant compatible with styrofoam to seal those cracks.

How difficult / expensive is it to install a heat strip in a Dometic roof top AC? The unit I have has a mark on the knob for heat, but I suspect it was never installed.

Fairly easy. The only thing that you must figure out is how many amps the heat strips will draw. Make sure the fuses and the breaker switch can handle them. And be aware your electric bills will shoot up.

How to remove the complete roof top ac unit , 1980 GMC Tioga RV

Shut off Any AC power (hydro) to it, remove ceiling assy (inside part) and you'll see 4 bolts going up through lower assy, and into base of upper assy (roof unit) . Remove those 4 bolts and any wiring harness connected from lower to upper unit. Lift it off. If your just replacing the upper assy, leave hydro wires hooked up to lower assy , and let it hang, while you clean surface on roof for new install. Re-install 4 bolts and tighten equally until gasket is approx 1/2 thickness it was before tightening. Re-install wiring harness plug in to lower unit etc. If not replacing, but removing entire assy (upper and lower) be sure to Marette and tape hydro wires as well as any 12 volt wires, and tuck away safely. Install a vent on current opening , or whatever you choose.

Seal for roof top ac unit

I just spoke with the mechanic at my RV dealership and he said the sticky side goes on the a/c unit. You only have to turn it on it's side to do this. Just wait 1 hour after re-installing the unit on your RV before turning it on.
