I had that problem with my first Xbox 360 I changed AV cables 4 times and still got the same error. Luckily I had a warranty and was able to get it fixed. That is probably what you will have to do. The AV connections on the inside have probably gotten so hot that it has melted something around that area and causes it to not work. I hate to say it but you might have to call 1800-4myxbox to get this fixed.

Also this is what I did to fix this problem, but it is a MANDATORY FIX! This will only work for so long, I wrapped 3 regular sized bathroom towels comepletely around my Xbox. Yes I know it sounds crazy but trust me it worked. I let the Xbox sit there until it shut off on its own, then turned it right back on. And most of the time it would work, sometimes I would have to do it 3 or 4 times but it would eventually work right. You have to be there to listen for it to shut off or see the screen go comepletly black to know it turned itself off. I eventually had to turn it in to Microsoft to have it fixed.

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

El Es Dee When you over heat the chip like that all your doing is throwing off its limits for heat and basically are burning the chip youll be able to play till the chip burns up. MS knows about this towel trick and have stopped servicing any and all systems with completely burned out chips. Letting people know how to do this does not fix there issues it only hurts there system more.

My xbox 360 was saying error e74 now it will just turn on but screen is blank.pls help me

If you get the Xbox 360 1 red light message, it means that the problem is either with the DVD drive, or with the hard drive.

Fortunately, the Xbox 360 1 red light message is not something that you should worry about. In order to identify which of the two drives the Xbox 360 1 red light messages is referring to, just look the code number that the screen displays. DVD drive errors are identified with the codes E64, E65 and E66, whereas hard drive errors are identified with codes E67, E69 and E79.

Once you identify which error the Xbox 360 1 red light message is pointing to, fixing it is really easy. The guide available at Fix-xbox360.info will tell you what to do in each case, as well as what to do in case you get any of the other Xbox 360 lights messages. Check it out.

When I turned on my system, it had system error contact xbox customer support. There is a red light flashing on the bottom right, around the power button. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Some of us suddenly when we turn on our Xbox 360 console one day we got one red light flashes on the ROL (Ring of Light) around the Xbox 360 power button, and we got an Error message appearing on the TV screen "System error" also might occur with any error code like E66, E67, E68, E71, E74 or E77, all the same.
systemerrore74.jpg
When you get any of these messages appearing on your screen with one red light flashing on the ROL of your Xbox 360 console that's an indicator of a hardware problem with the console connection to one of the parts connected to it as the hard drive or cables.

oneredlight.jpg
So, first disconnect all power and AV cables from the back of your Xbox 360 console and also unplug the power cord from the wall socket, wait for a minute then reconnect them all back and try to turn on your Xbox 360 console once more.

If that doesn't work, it seems then to be a fault with your Xbox 360 hard drive so turn off the console again and remove the hard drive then turn on your Xbox 360 console without the hard drive, supposed then to work fine, it might be an intermittent issue and when you reconnect the hard drive your Xbox 360 will work fine all after, or it will just work fine without the hard drive so it will be then definitely a fault with your Xbox 360 hard drive so call Xbox 360 customer support to exchange the hard drive for you.

The Xbox 360 console might even keep giving you the same error code even after you remove the hard drive so it will then appear to be a fault with your Xbox 360 console not the hard drive & also in a case like this we need to contact Xbox 360 customer support to exchange the console.

1 flashing red ring

The lower-right quadrant of the Ring of Light flashes red on the front of your Xbox 3602.gif console. You also receive the following error message in multiple languages on your television screen or monitor:
System Error2.gif. Contact Xbox Customer Support. This message begins with an error code in the format "Exx," where xx is a two-digit number.

The following indicator will flash on and off repeated on the front panel of your Xbox 360 console:
Collapse this imageExpand this image 1rol.gif
If one red light is flashing and you receive a different error message2.gif or error code than those that were described previously or you don’t receive an error message or code, your console may be experiencing a different issue. In this case, see "References/links."

This problem occurs when your Xbox 360 console experiences a hardware failure.

  1. Turn off your console, disconnect and reconnect all cables, and then turn on your console.
  2. If an Xbox Hard Drive2.gif is attached to your console, turn off your console, and then remove the Xbox Hard Drive. Turn on your console, and test for the error. If the error does not reoccur, turn off your console and reattach the Xbox Hard Drive. Run alternate additional tests by having the Xbox Hard Drive connected and disconnected to see whether the error occurs only when the Xbox Hard Drive is connected. For more information if the on-screen alphanumeric error is E67, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 917874 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917874/ ) One of the lights on the Ring of Light on the front of your Xbox 360 console flashes red and you receive one of the following error codes and message: "E67, or E68, or E69. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support"
  3. If an Xbox Memory Unit (MU) is plugged in to your console, turn off your console, and then remove the Memory Unit. Turn on your console again, and test for the error. If the error does not reoccur, turn off your console and reinsert the MU. Run alternate tests by having the MU connected and disconnected to see whether the error occurs only when the MU is connected.
  4. If this problem continues to occur, contact Xbox Customer Service. Note If the agent cannot help you resolve this problem, you must return your console to Microsoft for repair.
Additional support loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If the steps in the previous section did not resolve your issue, your console may have to be repaired. For more information about how to start the online repair process, please visit one of the following Web sites:

E74 is the error code, call xbox (1800-4MY-XBOX) and inform them of this error.
If you have voided your warranty, you will have to resort to buying a new 360 or a new motherboard.

Hey Mr. Boswell,

You have discovered the problem that a large number of xbox 360 owners have discovered also and that is that they get a "system error" message on their screen or worst they get the three rings blinking on their 360. Its a very common problem with this kind of console and if you still have a warranty on your console I would seriously recommend you to contact Microsoft the maker of the xbox and explain to them your problem. They will no doubt have to take back and repair your defective xbox. visit xbox.com for support or call 1 800 469 9269. I really hope that helps
