Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

2 Answers

Margin Problems I have an IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter Series II, and I can set the left and right margins fine, but when I get close to the right margin, the typewriter beeps and as I keep on typing, the carriage moves past the right margin and ***** skips down to the next line. I checked the formatting and the typewriter knows that it is past the right margin, but it doesn't do anything about it. Thanks

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

Right margin

Hi:

On all IBM Wheelwriters the right margin can always be typed through. The only indication you will get when you reach the right margin is a beep tone. To set the right margin, space to the desired point and depress the right margin key once.

Need to reset all the margins on IBM Wheelwriter 10 Series II. The margin release button will not release the left margin.

The problem may be that the carrier is binding on return, put some light lube (WD40 works well) on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 won't let us clear the left margin

If the carrier (print head) goes to the left when you turn the T/W on then try this.
Return to the L. margin, press mar rel key, backspace to the location that you want the margin, press L. mar key the wheel should spin and reset the margin.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 (Setting the Margin back to 5"

Sounds like you don't know how to set l. margin or you have some debris in the typewriter. Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand, if so turn it on 7 return to l. margin press mar rel key, backspace to where you want the margin and press l. margin key.

hope this helps

MARGINS

Move carrier to left margin press margin release, top left hand side of keyboard, back space to desired position and press L Margin key.  Margins will reset to default if batteries are dead.   Right margin simply space to whever you want the margin and press R Margin.
