Question about HP 12c Calculator

Not working when turned on

I took the back off to clean the screen. I didn't know how to get the circuit board to release, so I put the back back on and now it doesn't work. It was working fine before I took the back off. I tried the coin trick, but that didn't sole the problem. I do get on the upper left side of screen a wide mark and below, what appears to be a wide comma when I turn it on.
Also, could you tell me how to remove the circuit board to clean the screen.
Thank you! Richard

Could be that you may have accidentally damaged the circuitry by touching it with a statically screwdriver or your hand.

Hi,

Hard part is taking it apart without breaking the little tabs that snap the case together. It may have a couple hidden screws somewhere like in the batt compartment or under a label or under the rubber feet. Then carefully pry the case joint apart to get the snaps to let loose. Then the circuit board easily comes out - be careful if all the keys are loose not to disturb them. Also be careful of the display that may be loosely mounted. Once you get the board out, just rinse it when clean with something like alcohol so no residues are left. Also be careful to not rub off any off the black key contact spots where the keys touch it. Put it back together loosely and see if it works.

Goodluck..

After you finish the cleaning see if you get the display i mean whether it turns on or not.If it does not turn on then try taking the batteries out for a full 24 hours. This will let the
capacitor drain and performs a static discharge. After 24 hours put
    working batteries back in.

Using a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and the screen just went blank in the middle of a class. changed the batteries, didn't help. cleaned the connectors, didn't help. tried to change the resoluti

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

What do you mean by "changed the resolution"?

My ti-89 is frozen, no matter what keys i press.and although i took off 4 batteries, but when i put batteries back, it is still same, menu screen.

First try the reset code which is pressing Left-Right-Shift and On at the same time. If that doesn't work you can try removing the batteries and putting them back in while holding the (-) and ) buttons.
If those don't work, there is a back-up battery located under a panel just above the four normal batteries underneath the battery cover. Removing this in addition to the four normal batteries should reset your calculator entirely.
If none of these work then there may be a short in the circuits of your calculator which could have been caused by leaking batteries. In this case you can try disassembling the calculator (being careful to remember how it goes back together) and cleaning the circuit board with circuit cleaner.

Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2nd key. Press and hold the down-arrow key for a few seconds to lighten the screen. If you go too far, press and release the 2nd key, then press and hold the up-arrow key.

My daughters's calculator got wet when something spilled in her book bag. We took out the batteries and let it dry out. Later we put in new batteries and it works but is extremely slow and I have to press...

If water was spilled in it, the batteries should have been removed immediately, if you could remove the circuit board from the casing, dry it off and place it under a lamp for a few hours it should have been perfectly fine. If a soft drink, sugar base or other substance was spilled in it; the board would need to be cleaned, a small amount of soap and water can work, use a cotton swab, only clean the affected area of the spill, make sure to rinse all the soap off, dry with towel, then place under a lamp to get all the moisture out. Also make sure you clean the bottom side of the buttons that contact the circuit board. If it doesn't work then you may have to buy another unit.

Button Problems

happened to me be4, except all my buttons didn' t work. I just did what people do in movies. throw it aroun, step on it, bang it against walls, desks , ect. Then my teacher took it away. The banging cleared all my ram. It was weird, but it started working.

I think the circuit board moved, and i hit it back into alignment.

Only the on button and shade of screen works

Sorry to hear that you all are having problems with your calculators. I don't think that resetting the units will help. You should contact TI.
