forgot to say temp gauge jumped UP, and is way too hot
and the overflow bottle is empty (and eng. oil is too thin to hot) _
heater dead, means engine coolant is mostly gone
let engine cool fully,
rad cap off, see rad is super low or empty, so put in 50% AF and top if all off, then run engine only in drive say, do not drive it until repaired.
cap back only idle engine for up to 1/2 hour to get 180f temps.
the thermostat may be bad, it is too old that old..
after idlng , look for leaks to ground, to cab foot wells (heater core leaks) and leaks to oil pan. (oil looks like chocolate milk)
see steam at end of tail pipe< bad that on a fully hot engine.
that is the tip of the ice berg, we do tests based on what seen above.
and serial process of tesst. and I uses RAD leak down tester.

Jerry, Drive to a good shop. So many things can cause reduced power light unfortunately. The first step would be to get the truck hooked up to a scanner/computer and have the computer scanned for trouble codes. One thing that you could try is to drain the water from the water separator that is mounted on the frame under drivers front door. If the PCM picks up on water, power is reduced until water is removed/drained. It could be an exhaust sensor that is reading faulty. Unfortunately from here its impossible to tell you exactly what the fault is because there are just so many engine sensor inputs that could cause your problem. Check the attached links, forums,instruction and guides, Good luck

The turbochargers usually wear out from lack of oil changes and early shutdown after a long hill pull. But easy to see faults oil leaks at turbo inlet to intake. remove pressure intake hose and view with flashlight if you see oil then the seals are leaking or mash down on throttle real fast and let up 3-5 times in a row if blue smoke comes from exhaust start saving your money it is ready soon.
Could be a number of things. Oil pan gasket, check around oil pan to see if its wet. Front crank seal could be leaking and blowing back if its bad enough. Check around and in behind your crankshaft pulley. I would also check your tranny cooler lines and power steering lines, if they are leaking bad enough the oil will get blown back when you drive. Also check to see how high up the engine the oil starts coming from that will give you some indication of where it starts.
Most oil leaks on this engine occur in the valley of the engine at the back of the oil pump. If you look directly down into the center of the engine infront of the turbo you will see the back of the pump and the potential leaks at the plugs on the pump and the output lines to the heads.
The fuel pump is located under the turbo on that truck. It is most likley washing sediment/old fluids out of the vally of toyr engine. It is also driven by a push rod that ths cam drives, so the lower pump o-ring may be leaking too. You can change the fuel pump without pulling the turbo. Good Luck
