I'm seeing the same thing: white screen, vertical lines or video drop-out. When that happens, the system (disk access) stops and I have to reboot. Tried system recovery and the unit stopped in the middle, now I'm in real trouble. Saw other entries suggesting power supply issues. Could that be it? I put a PCI video card in and that didn't help.

OK, tried the replacement video card: bought an off-motherboard PCI card and that didn't help. Went for broke and got myself a replacement power supply. BINGO, back in business. So the flaky video performance was because of the power supply dropping out, at least in my case.

I had the same problem: the video card is overheating I solved the issue by adding an auxiliary fan and drilling additional holes for ventilation I also made two small stands to elevate the case 4 inches so as to get additional air flow to the bottom of the desktop.

Download SpeedFan and check the running temperature of your hardware. Seems like the graphics chip is overheating. If "remote" sensor shows flame icon -- then you know that the corresponding part of the system is overheated for some reason... In that case you may need to replace the entire motherboard...

Good luck.

How to replace the video card in a hp pavillion slimline s5603w

Purchase a video card that is "PCI Express x16". When you get the card, just take the side off your computer and you will see what slot to put it in, there is only one that it will fit.

When you boot the system, do you get any life at all in the monitor? Splash screen, perhaps?

You could try to boot it to safemode (tapping the F8 key on boot) to see if you get any image. Other than that, it looks as though your video bit the dirt. A replacement video card may be in order.

Hope this helps - do let us know how you make out.

Cheers,

I have a pavillion pc the fans work but it will not fire up

Fans meaning CPU and Power Supply and Chassis? Try taking out your Ram and see if you get a beep code. If you do that's good, put it back and take out your video card, again for beep code. If you have internal video, during boot up try a combination of keys which used to get you to BIOS? Can't? Try putting in an external video card. Do you get a screen? If not, it could be your processor, although we really haven't ruled out your Video yet. Does your keyboard flash when you turn on? Try holding down a key for about 30 sec. while booting and wait for a beep. You should go into BIOS.

If you are sure that the monitor and cable are fine, then it is possible that the onboard video can be going bad. If you can regain the color while "jiggling" the cable at the connector to the computer and you are 100% certain the cable is bad, then this can indicate a loose connection of the plug to the mainboard. This is often caused by what is called a cold solder spot, where it has not adhered to the metals and thus causes a loose connection. If this is not the issue, then it is safe to say that perhaps the onboard video is going bad... assuming it is an onboard video since the unit is a slimline. If space permits, you can always add a video card and disable the onboard video.

HP Slimline Pavillion s3123w monitor going to sleep.

Sounds like the motherboard might be bad but go thru these steps.

Unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at at time and turn on the computer after each stick reinsertion.

If that doesn't get the video to come back up then go ahead and unseat and reseat the CPU. Then try turning on the computer.

If that doesn't do it, make sure there is no power going to the hard drive or the dvd drive. Then try turning on the computer.

If you do all of these steps and you still have no video, then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

Low profile video card for HP Slimline Desktop

Upgrading a certain parts in the computer depends on what purpose you want it to perform. If you're a GAMER or using imaging sofwares, then use MidRange Video Cards, like 7600GT. If the space on your Casing is very tight, then using low voltage Video cards like 7300LE.
