Question about Samsung DVD-V5500 DVD Player/VCR

1 Answer

Freezes during playback

We have 2 dvd-v5500 dvd-vcr combos 1 we bought new and 1 we bought used from ebay the 1 we bought new will play back home recorded dvds on the dvd-rw and the dvd-r dl type discs the 1 we bought used will play about 30 to 45 minutes of these same discs then the picture will freeze i know there is no problem with the discs since they play on the machine we bought new , so what might be the problem with the used machine it look's good and appears to be in good working order by that i mean that everything works except this problem with playback,do you think that it just needs a good cleaning or is some other adjustment required. Thank you for any advise you may be able to give me

THE problem is present in every disc that i have tried so far but when i play the same disc on the 2nd dvd-v5500 that we have they play all the way thru with no problem these are all new discs and they usually play from 30to45 minutes then they freeze then they play again then they freeze over and over again thru the remainder of the movie,i bought a dvd lens cleaner with no results, when the movie is froze you can't fast forward past the spot where the movie froze you have to just wait a few seconds and the movie will play again but within a few seconds to a minute or two it will freeze again and it will not allways freeze in the same time frame if you skip ahead but very close to it.

Hi, does this problem apply to all discs?(yes/no) when you first use the machine & insert the disc, does it freeze immediately if you were to skip to the problem area (yes/no)

Hi. What I am trying to establish from my last question is whether the laser has become heat sensitive or whether there is a bit of dust buildup on the spindle table that might be causing the disc to have excessive wobble.
If the disc has excessive wobble, then the machine will have trouble tracking the outer tracks and will constantly skip as you have described after say 30 to 45 minutes.
If the laser has become heat sensitive then the same problem could potentially occur - The only difference being that if you were to restart the movie at that point, then the skipping would continue even at the beginning of the movie.
The first problem (wobble) is easy to fix - Clean the spindle table, the second problem may render the unit uneconomical to repair.

Hi, the spindle table is the little mount that the Disc sits on inside the player. You may need a philips screwdriver and possbly a jewellers screwdriver as the spindle table will most likely be under a cover or clamp. most times, it can be acessed without major disassembly of the unit. a light rub with your finger to dislodge any particles that maybe embedded is all that may be needed. DONT TOUCH THE LASERLENS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - DONT ATTEMPT TO POWER THE UNIT WITH ANY COVERS OFF

Magnavox ZV420MWB VCR/DVD Combo
The answer is YES YOU CAN! Take advantage of one-touch recording from videotapes to DVD+/-R and RW discs or from DVDs to VHS tapes. A variety of different inputs also let you record from compatible camcorders, external TV tuners or cable boxes.

CONSUMER ALERT: This model does not have a built-in tuner for recording TV programs and will not record copy-protected tapes or discs. The new DVD-RW discs will not record. The old

Is it the CD/DVDs you are using? I have seen that many DVD burners that do record, will not play on Laptops/PC or other players. See the recommended DVDs the manufact. requires and go form there.

Samsung v5500 dvd combo problem

When you get a whirring sound, some click and disk not engaging on some disks, and not others , that is because lens cannot read the inital track on the CD/DVD.

This is either because disks are scratched , dirty or ruined by light and heath, or because the lens is dirty.

Try using a lens cleaner like the ones here.

If that does not work, then the unit must be taken apart and the lens cleaned with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol.

Seinfeld DVD episodes won't play

It is probably not your VCR. If it is only the Seinfeld DVD's then the format that the production company wrote on those few episodes are incompatible with your vcr. I know I'm not solving your problem much, but don't go waste money on a brand new Vcr when not needed.

My go video dvr4400 does not play homemade dvd's

Usually it isn't the speed of the homemade DVD but the type. DVDs come in four different formats:

DVD+R
DVD-R
DVD+RW
DVD-RW

Some DVD players will play all formats and some don't. Your manual should tell you. Do you know what formats are available for playback on your Go video?

VCR will play, but not record.

You gotta connect the signal cable to the input of the vcr and in the output of the vcr other cable to the tv input, when you got to record some program you need put the channel number on the vcr not in the tv if you conect the vcr to the tv in the avinputs the tv will be in video mode, because the vcr receipt the signal.
Good luck
