  1. Press and release the gold [2nd] button. Verify that the blinking up arrow appears in the display.
  2. Press and hold the blue up or down arrow key to increase or decrease contrast, until the display is to your liking. Be alert: the display will change quickly.
The calculator will remember your contrast setting; you don’t have to adjust it every time you turn the calculator on.

My ti84 will not turn on

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

My son was using the ti84 plus calculator. All of a sudden the screen went blank and now it appears to be dead.we tried changing the batteries but it didnt help.we last changed them about two weeks ago

It may not be as bad as you think. The batteries were depleted and the calculator turned itself off due to lack of electric energy.
So you changed the batteries. However after you put new batteries, the screen did not appear to be alive. It may just be too dim.
  1. Make sure batteries are good, and placed correctly (respect the polarity diagram)
  2. Press ON button once ( or if you have the TI SilverLink cable, insert it in the IO port)
  3. Press [2nd] key once
  4. Press the [UPArrow] and hold pressure
  5. The screen should start darkening.
  6. As you keep pressure on the UP arrow, a number should appear on the top right corner of the screen.
  7. Release the UpArrow key when screen contrast is adequate.
  8. If you make it too dark, Reverse the process : [2nd] key and [DownArrow]

I have a Ti-Nspire, i dont know why my mom got it but i looks different than a Ti-84 plus. My problem is i cant get it to show what i am typing. I have changed the batteries twice and tried to refresh it...

The TINspire with TI84 Plus keyboard works exactly as a TI 84Plus. If you do not see what you type it may be due to the fact that the screen display is too dim.
Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press the [UpArrow] and hold pressure. As you do so, the display should darken. Keep pressing until you get the setting you like.
Release the UpArrow.
If you make the screen too dark. Reverse the process above (2nd key and arrow) by making use of the Down Arrow.

How can i find the % in the ti84 plus

Sorry, but that feature is not implemented on the TI84 family of calculators. No key or command will instruct the calculator to perform such a calculation.
You may deplore such a shortcoming, but please, do not hold me responsible for it.

Ti84 powers on but the buttons do not work

Do you see anything on the screen? TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't work, post a comment here and we'll go on from there.

Our texas instruments TI84 calculator won't turn on. We've changed the batteries with new ones but it still won't turn on. Any suggestions?

It is possible that it is turned ON but you cannot see what is on the display because the screen is too dim. That often happens after you change batteries.
To make the screen darker
  1. Press the [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press the [UpArrow] key and HOLD it pressed until the screen darkens to your liking.

Make certain you have registered your calculator on their site. I think you need to enter you internal number. The internal number can be found by pressing the 2nd key, then the plus key and choosing about in this screen.
