My "Uniflame" grill lights fine, and when I set it to high, the flames increase appropriately. But, after maybe 5 seconds, the flames die down to a very low burn. All the holes in the tubes are lit and apparently unblocked. The grill is about 2 yrs old, at most, and has always been on the covered deck, never been in the rain and has spent its winters w/ a cover. As it is about 20 feet from the road, some dust might've gotten in, but nothing looks clogged.

same problem... the flames for the grill are low, but the burner on the right side is very high.

I had a similar problem over the 4th weekend, my grill would'nt get above 250 degrees. I tried to re light it several times with no luck and even changed the tank. Then while heating it up to clean, the flame came up unexpectidly sending the temp guage out of limits damaging the the grates and stainless steel. I suspect a regulator failure of some sort, not having much help from tech line or the Sears service center.

I had this same problem especially when the tank on my 5 burner 2 year-old Kenmore was about half full. The solution above fixed it. I was used to opening the gas fully, turning one burner to high and clicking the button. If I would have read the front of the grill I would have seen that this was incorrect. I turned off the grill completely, unhooked the regulator and reconnected it. With one burner on high I began clicking the button BEFORE I turned on the gas. I slowly turned the gas on one quarter turn and it lit up full flame. I slowly turned the gas another quarter turn and lit the second burner. I slowly opened the gas all the way and lit the third and so on. That did the trick!

I have a Kenmore Duel Fuel, it is approx 1 year old barely used. I have alwys had problems lighing it,or when it is lit the flame is low and won't heat up.Sears came out to repair it, and Technician said to "shake the propane tank" It continued to be a problem and I stopped trying unil about 3 weeks ago, again I tried for 30 minutes, finally it was lit . Suddenly a large flame shot out from under the grill, and I call The fire dept, it burnt up pretty good, I called Sears repair again, they sent a repair person today, that wants to oder us a new fuel line? this was a 1,000.00 grill. two of the knobs are melted of and it is entirely scorched!

There's a good chance your LP tank isn't putting out enough propane because it thinks there's an overflow. In short, if you don't light the grill fast enough, Propane flows back to the tank and a safety feature limits further output. Shut the valve and disconnect the tank, press your ignition switch a few times, then reattach and follow the manufacturers directions for lighting the grill. This will probably fix it.

If not, check for leaks in the hose with soapy water and make sure you still have a full tank!

Disclaimer- be careful when working with gas. Starters in gas grills are just about novelty anymore. Often, they only light 1/3rd or 1/4th of the burners and they usually stop working within one grilling season. I recommend using a wand lighter. Try to light just one burner but if doesn't light in 5 to 7 seconds, turn the gas off and wait to try again. Incidentally, you are turning the gas on at the tank, right? You should hear it when you turn the burner on.

I have a Kenmore Elite Model 16690. What is the best website for replacement parts for this grill?

First, since it's a Sears house brand, I'd start online with Sears Parts Central. Depending on which parts you're looking for, you can also try Appliance Factory Parts http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/gasgrillparts/brands/kenmore/

Keep in mind, Kenmore doesn't manufacture anything. It's just a house brand name for Sears appliances. Actually NexGrill manufactures the Kenmore Grill line. So contacting them 800.913.8999 is also a possible source for parts.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Grilling!!

Kenmore quantum series gas grill: where do I put the match to light it?

Using the wire match holder that came with the grill. Place the match in the holder, light the match and place it next to one of the burners. Turn the burner ON just enough for the gas to rise and the match will light the burner. Quickly remove the match and continue lighting the remaining burners you want to use.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a Kenmore Quantum grill and all of a sudden the burners do not want to ignite. The propane tank is new. I tried with a lighter to ignite the burners and nothing. The ignitor button doesn't...

The problem you're having is related to the OPD Valve in the Propane Tank. But, it is solvable by following the instructions below.

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I would try replacing the regulator, not very expensive and easy to do, first. If that doesn't fix the problem, call the gas company and see if there is a flow problem to the line itself. I have worked on grills that were operating properly, but there just wasn't enough gas flow in the line for the grill.

How do we fix a gas grill that doesn't cook evenly

Usually if you're have hot and cold spots, it's the burners that need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned. In addition, cleaning the venturi valves while the burners are out, is equally important. The Venturi valves are part of each burner. You will see them near the open end of the burner (looks like 2 slots cut into each side of the burner) where it fits over the burner orifice. While the burners are out, closely inspect each one for corrosion or rust thru. If you find severe corrosion or rust thru, the burner(s) should be replaced.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!

More than likely, the electrode spark ignitors on your main burners need to be cleaned. They will get covered with grease over time. Also check the wiring from the ignitor module to each spark ignitor being sure that all wiring is firmly in place. To clean the electrode(s) ... a cotton ball dipped in alcohol will work fine.

Hope this helped you solve the problem and Happy Grilling!

I have a Kenmore natural gas grill, model # 141-17227. I need the woners manual. The side burner will light but very low flame, cannot get the grill to light.

owners manual can be gotten through the internet- Sears.com find parts, type in model# of item, select manual sounds like valves are clogged- propaine and natural gasses are dirty gasses-no filter, it comes up out of ground, through dirty pipes, all the way to peoples homes- and thats why they have to replace valves on hot water tanks/furnuces........
