Happens with more than one disc, so it is not the disc. Opened my computer and the drive is not an option.
Did you go to REGEDIT to see if you have a corrupted registy?
Follow these instructions VERY CAREFULLY BELOW:
1) in COMMAND type REGEDIT
2) CLICK on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3) CLICK on SYSTEM
4) CLICK on CURRENTCONTROLSET
5) CLICK on CONTROL
6) CLICK on CLASS
7) VERY VERY CAREFULLY: CLICK ONCE ON THE FIRST REGISTRY FILE FOLDER RIGHT UNDER THE WORDS CLASS
8) Using the up and down keys on your keyboard: move the highlight down the list SLOWLY until you see the Title "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES" on the RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE REGISTRY EDITOR UNDER THE WORDS DATA.
9)VERY VERY VERY VERY CAREFULLY ERASE ONLY THESE FOLLOWING WORDS:
ANYTHING THAT SAYS LOWER FILTERS AND ANYTHING THAT SAYS UPPER FILTERS
After that close all windows and reboot the laptop
Check the dvd drive again with a dvd movie and an audio cd and a software program.
If everything works, the issue was just a corrupted dvd registry, if it does not work please write me the results.
I hope this helps :)

Usually answered in minutes!
It is internal.
No, it is not listed when I go into my computer.
I uninstalled and re-installed it and it still won't work.
I went to microsoft's "fix it" and had them run their solution and it still failed. It says the device could not be located, but when I go into the control panel, and in device manager, it says it is there and working.
Thank you!
When I click on the first file under class, the right pane has this list:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
Class REG_SZ nvlddmkm
NoDisplayClass REG_SZ 1
NoUseClass REG_SZ 1
Any more ideas?
Thank you so much!
Check your pc's COMPUTER section on windows. Do you see your drive listed there? Is this an external dvd drive or an internal one? Please write back with answers to questions above
