Put disc in, acts like nothing is there.

Happens with more than one disc, so it is not the disc. Opened my computer and the drive is not an option.

    It is internal.
No, it is not listed when I go into my computer.
I uninstalled and re-installed it and it still won't work.
I went to microsoft's "fix it" and had them run their solution and it still failed. It says the device could not be located, but when I go into the control panel, and in device manager, it says it is there and working.

    Thank you!

When I click on the first file under class, the right pane has this list:
    (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
    Class REG_SZ nvlddmkm
    NoDisplayClass REG_SZ 1
    NoUseClass REG_SZ 1

    Any more ideas?

    Thank you so much!

Check your pc's COMPUTER section on windows. Do you see your drive listed there? Is this an external dvd drive or an internal one? Please write back with answers to questions above

Did you go to REGEDIT to see if you have a corrupted registy?

Follow these instructions VERY CAREFULLY BELOW:

1) in COMMAND type REGEDIT

2) CLICK on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

3) CLICK on SYSTEM

4) CLICK on CURRENTCONTROLSET

5) CLICK on CONTROL

6) CLICK on CLASS

7) VERY VERY CAREFULLY: CLICK ONCE ON THE FIRST REGISTRY FILE FOLDER RIGHT UNDER THE WORDS CLASS

8) Using the up and down keys on your keyboard: move the highlight down the list SLOWLY until you see the Title "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES" on the RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE REGISTRY EDITOR UNDER THE WORDS DATA.

9)VERY VERY VERY VERY CAREFULLY ERASE ONLY THESE FOLLOWING WORDS:

ANYTHING THAT SAYS LOWER FILTERS AND ANYTHING THAT SAYS UPPER FILTERS

After that close all windows and reboot the laptop

Check the dvd drive again with a dvd movie and an audio cd and a software program.

If everything works, the issue was just a corrupted dvd registry, if it does not work please write me the results.

I hope this helps :)

You computer probably has Autoplay turned off for security.
-Click the start button on the lower left and click Computer when it appears near the middle of the right column. -Look for one of the drives labeled CD or DVD, probably the D drive. Righ-click it's icon. -From the list choose Autoplay.
If Autoplay is not an option double-click on the CD or DVD drive. Look for an application called Setup and double-click it to begin setup.

My drive doen't load my cd onto my computer. I hear it humming but nothing happens. it is a dvd optiarc re ad 7203a ata deviced

When you put a disc in, if nothing pops up, do the following:
  1. Click on the Start Menu
  2. Click on "My Computer"
  3. Locate the DVD drive in the window that pops up
  4. Double Click on it to see if you can access the disc
If that does not work, I would suggest that you clean the disc as best you can, make sure there are no major scratches, fingerprints, or dust.
If that still does not work, you can take a known good disc like a DVD movie that you know will play, put that in the drive and if that does not work, it may be safe to say that the drive is no longer working and must be replaced. But if you really want to make sure that it is not dead, you can buy a special disc that will clean the lasers lens inside the drive, I have linked to an example of one that will achieve that task.
http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-DVD-LC-Lens-Cleaner-Blue/dp/B00000JPPI
Now if you have tried all of these options, and still cannot get the drive to read a CD or DVD, you can safely assume that it must be replaced.

Put the disc into your disc drive and then go into my computer. Click on the drive and see if it will read the disc. You might need to install Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to see them. Try the Microsoft website for it.

Can't play blu rays

Your HP computer should come with Quickplay, open the program, click on DVD, on the upper right hand corner on the left side of the rectangular box there should be an icon that looks like a wheel or a gear, click on that and click on Updates, should solve your problem.

I put the cd rom into the drive and nothing happens. I go to click on the icon under my computer and it causes the window not to respond.

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

When i put a disc in the drive it takes ages to load

If this happens in all the discs you put in, then you should consider looking at the processor and memory speed, and most importantly, the disc drive itself. Replace the drive, if nothing happens, then upgrade your memory and processor (CPU).
If this happens with only one discs or with a few discs, see if your drive can read the type of discs you put in. There is a "+" and/or "-" on the disc, it should work properly with a +/- drive. If the drive has "+" on it, then it can only read discs with a "+" on it.
Hope this helps . . .
