Hi, what you have to do is open the router page by typing in the address bar of internet explorer 192.168.0.1 and press enter..
it will ask you for username and password i.e. admin and password....after that you'll be on netgear page there click the one on the left BACKUPSETTINGS below maintenance and after that on the new page click erase tab on the main page..then click yes router will reboot after that click ok and again type in password and press ok....After that you'll be back on netgear page and this time click on first option on the left BASIC SETTINGS and on left change encapsulation to pppoe and under that login will be your username provided to you by your isp and the password as well..eg.(email@example.com)..after that scroll
down to the bottom and click apply ....
And then click adsl settings on the left and change multiplexing to llc based and vpi and vci you have to confirm that from your isp and then apply router will go online....

set up WAN side access to the internet. For this you need information
about your internet service provider. Please respond with your internet
service provider's name or better yet a link to their help/support
I assume you already have access to configure the
router at 192.168.1.1 if not please do the following. Open Internet
explorer and enter 192.168.1.1 where you would enter fixya.com and
press enter -- do web pages appear in your screen from the wired
computer. If so we have manual access to configure the router...
if your friend is using a dsl connection,im sure he do have a modem from at&t, if you want to share internet connection, you need to purchased a router, here are some brands of the router that is applicable, linksys,netgear,belkins...once you have the router, you will need to contact AT&T technical support to configure the router to the modem so that you will be able to connect either wirelessly or hardwire connection...
the motorola modem that att is using uses 192.168.1.x subnet. log onto your router and change it to 192.168.b.x where b is any number between 2 and 254 (just not 1). You should also log onto the modem and change the setting that allows it to share the external ip address with the router. You will need to do this if you plan on accessing your network from the internet.
Hi, Your laptop has got a modem built in, but it is intended for dial up 56Kbps, not DSL. So they are both right. But if you want to use a DSL internet service you will need to buy either a DSL router or modem. You should not need to buy bothas the router will have the modem built in. Your ISP may have a prefered model and will probably sell you one at a fairly cheap price or you can get one from your local PC world. If you only have the one Laptop at home you can buy either the router or the modem. The modem will probably be cheaper. But for around $60 you can buy a router I prefer wireless. This will allow you around 4 connections and more importantly frees you up from having to be directly and closely connected and allows you to work in various places around the home without trailing cables everywhere. Your ISP will advise you on the settings you require. I advise you to enable all the security options on any wireless devices. I hope this was useful. Carrie
*if the DSL light on your modem is blinking..
TRY: using different filters// check physical connection
IF: not resolved call ISP for a trouble ticket for their line department
*if all the lights constantly blinks
DO: purchase new modem, maybe deffective already or check if modem still under warranty so provider can replace it
NOTE: plug 4100 modem directly to the back of the computer tower without the linksys router and check if light status still the same...
HOW: cable connected from back of modem shud be plug in directly to port at the back of PC tower.. completly remove linksys and turn linksys off..
