Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera

1 Answer

3 photos taken when pressing button once.

I've had epsiodes in which 3 photos are taken when I press the button once. When it happens, it does so in all the modes that I've tried. It stopped doing it currently, but I don't know what I did to make it do so.

It sounded good, but I didn't see any setting anywhere that would have given me that option. Thanks though.

It sounds like the camera was in "burst mode." This allows the camera to take several pictures at a time, and is useful in situations in which the object of your photos is in motion. To turn this on or off, go into the menu and look for something that says burst mode. You may also see an icon that looks like a rectangle with two other rectangles behind it. This is the same setting.

This is the manual (GB was all I could find):

    http://129.33.22.12/release/DSCW80.pdf

On page 15 it talks about the DISP (up arrow) button. This selects the modes, including the burst mode. The top left of page 24 shows the screen icons for the camera. The first one that looks like several rectangles is the burst mode. When you see this, the camera will take 3 pictures at one press of the button. You can turn this back off with the DISP button again.

I have a canon sx30 IS. I can no longer get it to play back. The camera still takes photos and video as I can take the card and see them on computer. Any idea what is wrong?

First test to see if the Replay (single right arrow) button actually works. That may be the problem. That button does two jobs. 1st it is supposed to enter the replay mode to show the last picture taken first. Apparently, from your description of the problem, that is not happening. To verify it is that switch that is dirty or defective, power up the camera, press the Replay button firmly just once, press the left arrow on the circular switch once. Wait until the lens retracts (about one minute). Then press the Replay button firmly once more. The camera should power down. If it doesn't, that proves the Replay switch is dirty or defective. Post the results of this test if possible.

Power key doesn´t work

There must be a problem with your batteries. If you have recently charged your batteries and it happens again, you should try a new set of rechargeable batteries.

You can try conserving charging power usage on camera by turning the flash off so that it doesn't precharge for the next shot.

Can't take pictures

Check your batteries, they may be inserted the wrong way, if not, then just press the button on the back of the camera ONCE to power it up. Then press the shutter button. the number readout on back should show one less number than it did before. You have taken a photo. You also need software that works.

Taking a photo of the family, delaying the camera until I can get into the shot.

Sure, follow these steps...
  • Set everyone in an even composition, close together, maybe some standing, some sitting, whatever strikes you as a good picture.
  • Put the camera on a tripod or other tall article
  • Press the Mountain/Macro/Timer button until the (clock/timer) icon is displayed on the viewer. The button to press is just above the MF (Manual Focus letters)
  • Press the shutter button all the way down to activate the timer.
    • Press once for ten-second delay
    • Press twice for three-second delay
    • Press a third time to stop the timer
  • Jump into the shot! =)
The lamp next to the lens will start to blink and continue until one second before the picture is taken. The lamp will then stay solid during the last second to warn about the picture being taken.

How to view

There are two ways to view the photos, in the camera...

1) if the camera is OFF and the lens barrier is closed, just press the Play (>) button once to view the photos.
2) If the camera is in SHOOTING mode with the lens barrier open, press the Quick View button twice in rapid succession.

When you are done reviewing the pictures, press the Quick View button once to turn the monitor off, OR, to return to the shooting mode, press the shutter button halfway.

Then use the arrow pads to go forward and backward.

Hope this helps.
