My Amana "the big oven" is all electric and requires a long time to preheat. Also have to set it up to about 550 for a bit until it gets in the 400 range, then back off to try to keep it around 450. what can I do to fix this myself?

Slow to preheat??? long cooking times??? smell gas while in operation???. all signs of a bad oven ignitor retails for about 60-65. easy enough to replace reomve the lower panle of the oven itself and you'll see the ignitor right there 2 ***** mount that to the bake bar and pull it out, unplug the wire harness, plug in the new one and remount.Start baking

SOURCE: the oven doesn't work

look to see if there is an inline fuse....you will probably have to take a panel off the back of the stove so you can see the wiring.. if it is a glass buss fuse they can be purchased at any auto parts store in the correct amperage for very little cash.....

The heating element goes on but the oven does not heat up. A few months ago noticed that it began to heat up very slowly. Now does not heat up.

Hello, dinophyl (early Jurassic protozoa, hey) Do you have a Gas or Electric kitchen range? Very good possibly that the thermostat control in the oven is bad. That little brass bulb in the oven. This controls the internal temperature of the oven. If it an electric range then the the electrical thermostat on the oven knob could also be the culprit also. GB..stewbison

Amana range -the oven does not work, but rest of stove is working.

If the oven isn't working it is either the oven thermostat or the element. If the light and fan comes on to show it's heating but no heat appears, check the fan oven element on the back wall behind the panel. Usually 4 screws.

Amana first addition oven (approx 10 years old) will not heat

I had a similar problem with my Amana oven, also about 12 years old. It was slow to heat and sometimes wouldn't reach the set oven temp. I replaced the oven igniter on a tip that it wasn't drawing enough current to open the gas valve solenoid. That did the trick. It starts immediately and heats to the right temp. Good luck. Joe
