Samsung HLP5685 W

TV Tech,

I have a Samsung HLP5685W, all of the sudden the picture and sound went out. When I unplug the TV and plug it back in I only get a Green light on the front...

I measure 330 volts DC going into the Ballast but 0 volts coming out right before the lamp. Do you think the ballast needs to be replaced?

I am just wondering why the sound isn't working and why I am not getting any kind of flashing lights on the front of the TV

Thanks

SoDak

I have pulled out the ballast and it is **t shorted...infact i guess it is open or at least has very very high resistance.

I would like to assume the ballast is bad and hope that fixes my problems...but am still concerned about the fact that there is ** sound and I have ** blinking lights on the front, but will get the board ordered and let you k**w if it works

    Thanks

Well I got bad news, I got the new ballast today, and have the exact same symptoms.

The old ballast was not shorted and neither is the new one.

When I first plug in the TV I only get a Green light on the front it does not do its normal power on sequence ending with the smiley face on the front. There is no sound and I have no blinking lights on the front, just a solid Green light.

Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?

    Thanks

    Hello,

I have a Samsung HLP5685W that won't come on... I get no Audio or Video. In fact it won't boot up properly, normally this DLP goes through some self checks then has a smiley face on the front display after that.

Now when I plug it in, I get a Solid green light on the front and nothing else. All of the voltage lights on the circuit board are green, so I have 12 volts 5 volts and 7 volts. I have 330 vdc going into my ballast but no output to the bulb. I change the ballast and no change...same symptoms.

The fact that the TV does not boot up properly and that I have no flashing red lights makes me think that I have a logic / processor problem and not something easy like a ballast or bulb.

I am hoping that someone can help me.

    Thanks for your help

.
1. Standby LED on Digital Board ON (5V)
2. Power on signal from keypad/remote to Digital PCB.
3. Power ON signal generated by Digital PCB> Analog PCB> PSU
4. All other voltages turn on.
5. Digital PCB tells fans to turn on.
6. Digital PCB tells DMD PCB to turn color wheel on.
7. DMD / digital PCB’S check feedback signals from
fans/ color wheel.
8. If OK, Digital PCB Tells ballast to turn lamp on. LAMP ON.
9. Digital PCB then checks “lamplitz signal” from ballast
for status OK.
It can therefore only be the digital PCB orthe DMD PCB This is the sequence of events that must happen for your set to power up. If I can help you further please let me know.

Believe it or not, a bad lamp can cause this too. Have you replaced the lamp? These sets have all kinds of safety circuits built in to prevent major damage. Unfortunately, these circuits sometimes make diagnosis tricky at best. Try a new lamp and keep us posted.

Yeppers..the ballast has taken early retirement...can you unplug the ballast output, and see if it's running into a short condition?

Hmmmm! I would have to say you have a problem with the signal board. I have not repaired this brand or model. This would be the first thing to investigate. It is the board that contains all your antenna and rca jacks. Good Luck and visit your TV tech with this info!

I have a samsung 56" pedestal DLP HLP5685, and it keeps turning off and on, on it's own. The bulb is only a few months old. Any suggestions?

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is BP9600677A you can find it here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsung-BP96-00677A-OEM-Replacement-LAMP-BULB-p/samsung-bp96-00677a-lamp-oem.htm?Click=48173.Have a blessed one!

Watching tv funny noise like it blew up and turned off, bad burning smell ,now turn on tv starts to power up like normal and then nothing any help much appreciated, tv is a samsung HLP5685 56' inch rear...

The smell and sound are that of a capacitor burst. If you open the back cover you will find wax around a cylindrical object. That's it. Replace it with an exactly the same item.
