There could be a few thing that happened.
the button has a dimple on the bottom of the plastic part that pushes the switch could be offset or somehow damaged.
the switch has broke and need a new switch board.
the button has been deactivated go into the setup menu and reset the camera to defaults.

You might try to re clean the card with a smooth cloth that is used for cleaning DVD`s also clean the slot on your camera... sounds like you might have got something on the card or in the camera slot.. you can also trying cleaning them with a little rubbing alcohol.. not much.. let them dry.very good then re clean them with the smooth cloth.. if this doesn't work you might be able to get your pictures by tacking them to a photo shop and see if your card is bad.. This happens if the memory card is a small storage card.. I have had this happen to me.. Hope this helps you. T.
This happens when the CCD sensor in the camera gets stuck off centre. It apparently happens sometimes if the camera body is dropped or knocked - it's a fault with the 'slider' on which the sensor sits. When you turn the camera on the software will shake the sensor to remove the dust. The sensor should then be centred by the camera's software. If this doesn't happen then the picture is clear but off centre as in your case. Usually this means a trip to a repair shop.
Have you tried the 'Menu' button? If you've turned off 'Review' in the settings menu, the screen doesn't show anything after you take a picture. If the screen doesn't come on when you push the 'Menu' button with a charged battery installed, your camera will need to be repaired.
My camera which was working already suddently stopped working. When I want to do anything on this viz. try to take a new snap or try to erase any/all frames, on screen I see "card not initialized". I have cleaned the smart card with a soft cloth, but no results have been seen.
