I have a hotpoint RGB745 oven temp problem

I have a hotpoint RGB745. The oven reaches the set temp. Then the flame will go out and not come back on unless, the oven dial is turned to off and then back to the set temp. Then the cycle is repeted...heats up ok then out etc. The indicator light for reaching the set temp. will only go out if you reset the oven temp to off.

I have had to replace my oven ignigter three times. More times than not my oven will not heat up to tempreture unless i one put it on broil first and two if I boil a pot of water on the stove. I have had problems with this oven since I bought it. Any feed back would be appreciated. keep in mind it is not uncommon for my oven to heat up and then when I begin to bake cookies etc. the tempreture will drop. Maureen

I have a similar problem. The oven temperature is very erratic. It is too cold, or, mysteriously, heats up way beyond the set temperature.. I have paid $300 in repair service and was told it was too expensive to fix. I don't believe they really figured out what the problem was. I can only control the oven temperature by watching it carefully every ten minutes and turning the conrol off and on.

Hotpoint oven will sometimes preheat to temp, sometimes not, when it does it will not stay hot enoughto cook the food...replaced control board...still dont work..checked thermostat, works fine. glo plug...

if it's glowing but not igniting the flame in less than 40 seconds you have a lazy ignitor, change it the draw unser the oven door and on the left or right side of frame not the door you'll see a tag with the model and serial number, give your parts store the model number and they'll give you the correct ignitor

Takes too long for oven to heat up

Hhi, Is this a gas oven? If the ignitor is going bad, it will not open the gas valve as soon as it should.
Please let me know so I can assist you further.

Oven temperature off

If you have a ohm meter you can ohm out the temp sensor. It has a harness that connects in the back. Unplug it and it should read around 1100 ohms at room temp. It sounds to me more like the ignitor itself. It has to draw so many amps to open up the gas valve. Check the sensor first. If it ohms out, change the ignitor. I think your problem will go away. Flames in oven are WAY too high! Having trouble lowering them.

Hi! melisrus
If you are using LP, even if you change the regulator settings from Natural Gas to LP Gas, the orifices all need to be changed. The Orifices should have come with the new unit, if not contact Hotpoint.
Make sure you order the instruruction manual and this is an Oven with Range Top, you will need orifices for all the burners on the range top.

Soultion not viable

Any other posts have been blocked, so I don't know what you have been told or tried. Has the oven temp been OK until just recently? The range has not been moved or converted Nat gas to LP etc. recently? If yes to Q1 and no to Q2, I'd replace the oven sensor ( WB21X5301) and then reset control to +- 00. Sensor is the pencil shaped thing sticking out the back of the oven. Note: Your temp test method is not accurate enough to calibrate oven exactly. I take average temp after a minimum 3 on / off cycles using a digital calibrating oven thermometer to get them within 10 degrees of set temp.
